We have had dogs, cats, horses, and chickens and I have loved all of them equally. I have been helping to take care of my grandpa’s coonhounds since I could walk. Throughout my life, I have been able to work with these strong, high energy dogs. I have experience with walking them, as well as teaching them how to walk on the leash with minimal pulling. We have also raised MANY litters of puppies, so I have experience with puppy care as well. I have had the responsibility of giving puppies their parvo/puppy shots to ensure they don’t become ill when weaning from their mother. I have also had my own dog, Sally, for about 10 years now. She is a French bulldog, and she does need a little extra care sometimes. She has some skin irritations, so she has a special food that has helped. She also has a gentle shampoo that she is bathed with that will not cause her to itch afterwards. I also keep her face and wrinkles clean to keep any irritation at bay. I am a student at Morehead State University, where I am part of an organization called 4Paws for Ability. We work with service dogs in training where we socialize them in public. These dogs learn to not be afraid of new things, and to feel comfortable and confident in a public setting no matter where they go. I have been a part of this group for two years, and for a year and a half of this time, I have been able to dog sit many of these dogs countless amounts of time. I had the opportunity to work with and be responsible for one of these dogs named Gingko. I was responsible for his care, and a lot a lot of his basic commands. My main goal was to socialize him in public, which included things like meeting new people/children, being able to walk by dogs without a reaction, going shopping at Walmart, hearing new sounds, or even just a walk through a park. In the summer of 2022, I volunteered at the Owen County Animal Clinic where I had the opportunity to work with all sorts of dogs and cats. Often times, I would comfort and hold animals still for any injections, nail trimmings, or basic inspection that needed to be done. I enjoyed my time there, and I especially enjoyed giving love and comforting many of the scared and stressed animals.
