Vet student home for the summer

Pet care experience

I currently attend the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine where I will be in my 2nd year of school. I am a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Animal Sciences. My love for animals started when I was 12 years old when I trained a dog to be therapy dog certified to take onto hospitals. From there, I moved into 4H and FFA where my love for animals grew stronger. I've interned/worked at a veterinary hospital for the last 3 years. I have dog/house sat for countless families over the years, and I have experience with households that have 2 dogs and households that have 7 dogs and 2 cats. As a college graduate, my availability is very flexible! I am currently working part time, so I gave plenty of availability to take care of your furry friends. If you give me the opportunity to spend time with your animals, I will be ecstatic and beyond excited to be able to spend time with new furry friends. I would love the opportunity to love on your dog while you're away from home! As a pre-vet student, I can't get enough of animals and want to be around them 24/7. Having the opportunity to love on and care for your pets will be the highlight of any day! I will love on and treat your pets like they are my own!

Information Courtney L. would like to know about your pet

Before pet sitting, I would like the owner to provide me with specific details about their animals' temperaments: are they normally really active, normally really lazy, hesitant around new people, love everyone that they meet, etc. Besides the temperament, I will ask questions about the animals favorite activities, toys, and treats, that way I can be prepared with ideas on how to keep the animals entertained. Finally, I will ask the owner specific questions regarding the health of the animal. It is crucial as a pet sitter that I am aware of all past and current medical conditions in the animals' history, whether that is allergies, diseases, conditions, etc. This way I can be prepared if the unexpected happens and know how to handle the situation if it does arise. I have no breed preferences, from a 4 pound chihuahua to a 183 pound cane corso I have experience with both small and large breeds. Lastly, I will ask you if you have any specific things that you would like me to achieve while pet sitting. Those things might include: giving your dog a bath, cleaning out their ears, working on leash walking manners, working on commands, etc. I will be more than happy to work on topics like those with your animals while you are away, not only would it benefit the animals, but it would also give me the chance to form a stronger bond with your pets!

A typical day

My primary goal while watching your pets is to get them active and playing as a way of tiring them out. Increasing activity and getting them tired means that they will be less likely to show destructive tendencies when being left alone, and that is definitely something I was to prevent from happening. Depending on your animal's normal activity level, I would plan on taking them on long walks around the neighborhood or even a local lake, take them on slow jogs if their activity level allows, and even take them to the local dog park where they can play with some of their fellow dogs. The activities are excitingly endless, but most importantly, I would tailor them around the needs of your animals.
