Dog enthusiast, loving guardian

Pet care experience

Started diving into the world of dog training when I was 16. Got hooked on it with my family’s senior lab. Then I got a puppy. Now I am 4 years with my current lab, with a Champion Trick dog title, 2 scentwork titles, and a Rally title, under our belt. I have a goal to join Jean Donaldson’s Dog Trainers Academy and help pet parents train their pups as my career. Kindness, understanding, and patience as my main tools of choice. I have experience with mainly medium to large dogs, horses, and cats. I volunteer at the Marathon County Humane society regularly to walk the shelter dogs. I love all the personalities and quirks all the pets bring to the table. Give me all the crazy! I understand the heart ache when you leave your pets behind for a time, so I try my best to make them have such a good time they forget you’re gone. I mysef also have a difficult pet to have other people take care of, and the relief you feel when you find someone you can trust. I hope I can be that relief for you. Want to learn more about me? I’m very active on Instagram, I post about all things life and dogs! @just.agirl.and.herdog

We were very pleased with the care Colleen gave our puppy. She fed walked and played with her. We especially enjoyed the pictures and video she sent us of the puppy. She is reliable and trustworthy. We hope she is available the next time we need someone.

Colleen took care of my family dog while we were on vacation a few times and we were very satisfied with the caring attention she received. Colleen was very attentive to our golden, always on time with her visits, and spending an ample amount of time playing and exercising her. We would 100% recommend her to other pet owners in the area as she is very trustworthy and responsible and takes her dog-sitting duties very seriously.

If I am to take your pet outside they will always be leashed unless in a securely fenced area. Treat bag always full and ready to reinforce good behavior. Detailed lists of anything you do normally with your dog are awesome. I am always kind to pets, no physical force. I want to do all your dog’s favorite things with them to fulfill their needs. If I’m taking your dog on an ‘adventure walk’ and for some reason need to leave them in my vehicle for a short period, my vehicle is temperature monitored via Govee. And I will never leave a dog in a car in hot temperatures. If I am to have a leash longer than 6 feet on a dog, I highly recommend that you provide a harness for them to wear, so there is no risk to their necks if they were to accidentally hit the end of a long leash. Please let me know if your dog is dog or human aggressive. I am very happy to accommodate and make sure they have ample time to be introduced to me, and make sure they have plenty of distance on walks. I will do free meet and greets so you can meet me and your dog can too. Tick medications are highly recommended for all walks, I will check over your dog afterwards for any ticks they may have caught.

Information Colleen M. would like to know about your pet

If your dog is friendly with other dogs and I’m doing a walk visit for them, let me know if you are ok with me booking another dog at the same time. If not, totally cool, your dog gets their walk all to themselves. Any problem behaviors like jumping, biting, resource guarding, reactivity, and house soiling, is helpful to know about in advance. I always bring food with me, let me know if your dog has any allergies or restrictions. Please let me know if your dog is dog or human aggressive. I am very happy to accommodate and make sure they have ample time to be introduced to me, and make sure they have plenty of distance from others on walks. I will do free meet and greets so you can meet me and your dog can too.

A typical day

Drop in visits: Full day can include a max of 3 visits. One morning, one afternoon if you are close enough to my job, and one evening. I will always potty, feed, and exercise your pet however we have discussed, and make sure they are healthy and happy before I leave them. My visits can last up to an hour. On a days where you are gone only a half a day, your pet will get one visit. Walks: I offer a couple different kinds of walks. I offer neighborhood walks on a 6ft leash, park sniffy walks on a longer leash (10+ feet) and adventure walks on local trails where I will use whatever gear works best for your dog. We can discuss together at which walk you would like for your dog. The adventure walks have to be at the 60 minute rate to accommodate for driving time and allow ample adventure time on the trail. If I go over an hour I won’t charge you extra. Neighborhood walks I also offer as a training session to teach your dog loose leash walking. I recommend this if this is something you are struggling with. You are welcome to join us as well if we plan a training walk. I use R+ techniques to teach dogs loose leash walking. Note that if it is a training walk, my goal won’t be to go very far in distance. But the brain work required from dogs almost always wears them out faster than several miles of walking. I won’t go over 30 minutes for training walks. Neighborhood walks without extra training I can do longer. Park sniffy walks is just letting your dog wander and explore safely in an open area like a local park. Perfect for the puppies, seniors, or slower chill pets.
