My family has always had pets. The first I remember was when I was five years old, when we had two chihuahuas, Pepper and Jeep. Most of my childhood and teen years, we had poodles, which we bread and sold the puppies. When I was in high school, my sister gave me a seal point Siamese cat for Christmas, as my parents did not like cats yet. I named her Feliz. After that, my family was converted to cats, and we had and bred several Persian and Himalayan cats over many years. In the 1980's, my aunt gave me a Golden Retriever puppy, which I named Hugo. At the proper age, I took him to obedience school and I was trained in the choke-chain method to teach Hugo obedience to many commands. He became an excellent walker. Later in life, when I became the caregiver to my aged parents, we moved into what had been a model home in a housing tract in California. The home came with a number of feral cats, called construction cats, which workers had been feeding. I very humanely and pains-takingly, caught each one, and had them fixed at the local Humane Society, who notched their ear, and I cared for them as outside cats. My last pet was a stray tuxedo cat, I unoriginally named Oreo, who found me and demanded I be her owner. She had been fixed and declawed by her previous owner, so I brought her into my home and we were best friends until her death 10 years later. Since moving to Heber City, Utah seven years ago, I have been living in a small travel trailer, so do not have pets. But I have made friends with many of my neighbor's pets.
