I convinced my mom that we needed to have a dog in the family when I was 10 years old. Katy was our first pet, a yellow (more white) white labrador retriever. I learned how to care for her for throughout my adolescence. When I left for college, my mom replaced my absence by becoming a foster home for dogs. Every time I came home to visit I had the opportunity to work with new dogs of all types of personalities. We had the opportunity to adopt a puppy after my sophomore year. I spent the entire summer training what was then an 12 week old puppy named Scoop. By the time I was headed back to campus, Scoop was fully responsive to commands from myself and my mother. We soon added a small dog, Bella, which made a house full of 3 dogs full time and a rotating cast of foster dogs. I love dogs and feel comfortable around them in any scenario. We no longer have dogs in our family. Katy was put down due to hip problems, Bella was given up to SPCA after mom moved out of state, and Scoop was given to a dear friend of mine who needed an animal friend as I also moved out of state. Scoop is now a corporate mascot with Reveneer and gets to hang out with his human all day. I really miss being around dogs, caring for them, and being friends with them. My work schedule doesn't allow me to care for a dog all the time, but I cherish the opportunity to be around dogs and help them be comfortable. They are truly man's best friend and I'm looking to reciprocate when I can. One day I'll have my own dog again, but for now I'm happy to help take care of yours!
