Dog Trainer & Behavior Specialist
Pet care experience
My emphasis in caretaking is to create an individualized care plan for your pet through our meet and greets. I will not accept a booking without first proposing a meet and greet so you can get to know me and I can get to know your pet's personal needs. I am a dog trainer and behavior specialist currently located outside of Taos, New Mexico. I have over a decade of professional experience caring for pets (including some care of small exotics) and 9 years of professional experience training companion animals with a primary focus on pet dogs with complicated behavior issues such as those rooted in fear or aggression. I currently manage a not for profit dog breed survival program and breed club, so my availability may not be as open as other Rover caretakers, but I have a passion for training and animal husbandry,, enjoy being physically active, and I enjoy helping my community and my fellow pet owners. Rover seemed a perfect fit, to me. For more information on my background and education, I began as kennel manager in 2006, where I was the caretaker for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits (and other small mammals), reptiles and amphibians, and arthropods. I began working as a dog trainer in 2009 in Massachusetts after completing a certificate course under mentors in Colorado. This sparked my interest in taking my knowledge of animal behavior further, and a year later, I entered university to complete my degree in behavioral psychology to apply toward animal behavior. I have nearly 2 years experience in emergency veterinary medicine between Oregon and Rhode Island between 2016 and 2021 and was a reliable employee of the Oregon Zoo from 2015 until 2020 due to covid closures.
Reviews
I cannot express my appreciation and respect for CJ. She is super punctual, trustworthy, and caring. Quick to respond to any questions and a total help with our large malamute. You cannot find better.
My boys love seeing CJ - she’s always on time and takes great care of my doodles!
CJ has been so accommodating, even when we needed to adjust the schedule. She also sends pics and lets us know if there’s any behavior or other changes we might want to know. She’s great and reliable and we are so thankful to have her!
The best sitter ever! Sends cute pictures! She even brings in packages that have been delivered.

Every care plan is tailored to the individual animal. I do not believe there is any other way to care for a pet or any animal. Erring on the side of caution is my go-to. Being entrusted with anyone's pet is a large responsibility that I take very seriously. I want everyone to be safe, comfortable, and happy.
Information CJ H. would like to know about your pet
Have you ever had your dog turned down at a daycare or boarding facility? Have you ever felt anxious trying to figure out how your dog will receive a new caretaker? I'd love to help alleviate some of that anxiety, if I can! Let's talk!
A typical day
I do my best to be conscientious of what a dog is feeling and could only best describe myself as having a "flexible" style, willing to adjust to what my client and their dog(s) want me to be. My personal philosophy is that sitting should be fun and rewarding for everyone involved. I will be as communicative with you, as the owner, as possible, and make sure our walking activities are appropriate for you and for your dog.
