DogLover, fenced yard, daily walks!

Pet care experience

Hi everyone, I'm an animal lover who works very part time from home, has a fenced backyard and a family that loves dogs. I take my own dog (10 yr old golden retriever mix rescue) for a short hike in the woods around an hour nearly every day (sometimes longer depending on the visiting dog); these walks are definitely a highlight for our doggy visitors. I will take yours too if he/she is good on a leash or possibly if he/she sticks very close by and responds well to commands off-leash. I have had dogs living in my home since I was born, and to me dogs are family. If I watch your dog at my house, he/she should be generally friendly and get along with other dogs. Mine is still playful at 10 and will play with younger dogs but knows when to leave older dogs alone. I have taken care of senior dogs that need medications up to 3x daily. I have also taken care of puppies who need to be taken outside every couple of hours and everything in between. Your fur baby's safety and welfare is my utmost concern!

Kevin loves and is borderline obsessed with Christy’s place. In fact, I don’t really know what we would do without her. He absolutely loves playing with the other doggies there. He is young and a bit much sometimes but Christy is always so kind and tolerant of Kevin’s quirks. Her family welcomes Kevin into their home with so much love and snuggles. Truly the best. Thank you Christy!

Jettie had a great time at Christy’s home! She seemed to love playing with Christy’s dog and went on big exploring walks daily. Christy was very flexible with drop off and pick up times. She sent pictures of Jetties adventures daily. It was great leaving her in a loving home while I was away. Thanks Christy!

Christy was awesome. Clearly the best person I could have hoped to leave Buddy with during our ski trip. She actually made a better effort to send pics and updates about my dog than I did for the parents of the 8 extra kids that spent the week skiing with us!

Christy and family took great care of Zoey for an overnight and even took her on two woodland hikes. She and Christy’s dog got along very well and we received plenty of photos during the trip.

I have a fenced backyard and one friendly dog to keep your fur baby company. It is a very pet-friendly home, and your dog can sleep on the couch when he/she is tired of playing (smaller dogs are welcome on the bed). If your dog is used to sleeping in a crate or being crated when being left alone (3-4 hours max and atypical), please bring your dog's crate. I always send pic updates!

Please let me know if your dog is vaccinated, including Bordetella vaccine (for kennel cough - if not, it only takes a couple of days to develop immunity after vaccination for this one) and be prepared to share their vet records when requested. There is apparently also some sort of scary new respiratory virus going around that there is not a vaccine for, so also let me know if your dog will have boarded in a kennel, visited doggy daycare or socialized with other dogs that have within the last 10 days of staying with me. I take these concerns very seriously, as I don't want my dog or the up to two other dogs that stay with me to get sick! Please also let me know what your dog is like behavior-wise most of the time. My dog is a laid-back moderate energy dog who loves to go for walks and play. He's a big sweet protector and tends to love most dogs and especially female dogs, smaller dogs of either sex and does well with older dogs of either sex. He love little puppies as well. He gets along with all sized dogs, but if your dog is high-energy AND male, large and young that probably wouldn't be the best match for him, but a combo of 2 of those traits could work if higher energy ;) (like female, large and young or male, small and young). He does like his sleep. He feels the need to assert himself with bigger male dogs (especially young males and breeds such german shepherds, so if your dog needs to be top dog, they would probably clash, but a sweet, non-aggressive. older male (3+) would most likely work). He knows when to leave older and not as social dogs alone. Your dog should not be aggressive with other dogs as I host up to 2 dogs a night (3 including mine). If your dog is high-maintenance (is large and needs to/is used to sleeping on a bed, high energy, would jump up to eat food on counter/tables etc, isn't good on a leash, can lack personal space with other dogs though not aggressive), then you would need to book the 2 dog in the same family rate ($99/night) so he/she can be the only dog (besides mine) . Also if your dog barks frequently, I need a semi-quiet workspace for Zoom meetings, so we wouldn't be a good fit. Thanks!

A typical day

I take my dog for a walk or hike on trails nearby for about 45 minutes to an hour daily, sometimes longer depending on the pets that are staying with me. I can take yours as well if he/she is good on a leash. If he or she isn't good on a leash, he/she will need to stay behind when we walk (my back can sometimes act up with leash pullers) unless perhaps you are very confident they will stick close off-leash with someone other than you. My whole family loves animals and will give your pet attention too when they are around. I can also play fetch in the backyard with your dog if that is something they enjoy.

I'm currently working online very part time from home, so I will be nearby for your pet's needs. Your dog should be able to be left for up to 3-4 hours if need be (for instance, if my son has an away game), but that would be atpyical, as someone is usually around and he/she probably won't need to left that long at all. I do need to concentrate on my part-time work with students when that happens online, so your dog should be able to chill for an hour at a time on the couch or wherever with me nearby. I list 2-4 hours for being let outside, but most of the time it's whenever they want (except at night...hopefully they can go 7 or 8 hrs). A daily/walk hike in the woods will definitely be a highlight of your dog's visit (unless they are too old and you'd prefer they stay home). I can also play fetch with them in the backyard if that is something they enjoy. My family will also love on your pet when they're around.
