Spastic pup? Nervous pup? I'm in!

Pet care experience

Owners will appreciate my flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile to see that their pup is happy, healthy and practices their good manners. Dogs will appreciate my respect for their natural communication and a few simple exercises to stimulate their minds at home or on a walk. I currently work 4 days a week with flexibility throughout the day to care for your furry family members. ABOUT ME My animal care experience was gained over the years rehabilitating and loving an extremely nervous rescue pup. I read every book and blog I could get my hands on, attended trainings and worked with my vet alongside a behavior specialist to bring my pup to a safe and balanced head space. In the end we had so many wonderful years together and always attracted the attention of others by how well behaved she was when with me. I also gained professional dog handling experience a few years ago while volunteering for a veterinary friend of mine. Later I volunteered overseas with a veterinary practice handling all types of dogs from family pets to guard dogs to puppies for routine care. As a career, I worked in child protection and immigration which involves handling confidential information and requires a high degree of trust. Put plainly, your pets and home are in good hands with me.

We used Christy’s services all summer for dog walking, drop ins, and a couple nights of house sitting. The dogs were always super happy to see Christy and just loved her! She’s great about sending pictures & updates & making sure that all dogs feel loved & get the same amount of attention!

We have been traveling Alaska in a motorhome this summer, where occassionally you're out of range for longer than makes sense for your pet. Rover has been a great stop gap for those moments.. and Christy turned out to be the most amazing find. There was an issue with the lock on our motorhome, leaving her locked out... luckily... WITH Iggy... She handled it in the most amazing way, just bringing Iggy with her for the day. He has now seen more of Seward than we have and was delivered to us happy, decompressed .. a bit tired, but totally happy. We cannot say enough good things about Christy and her affection for dogs. She really went above and beyond both with his care and our peace of mind. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Couldn’t be happier with the care that Christy provided for Bo this past weekend! She took the time to send pics of Bo doing all his favorite things - especially the walks! She is a real professional and it’s more than obvious that she loves dogs. Thanks!

Christy seemed to be very comfortable around our dogs and they seemed to like her right off the bat! She walked all 3 of our dogs of different ages, left very detailed Rover cards and pictures, and left the keys in a very discreet location like she was asked to do. All of the dogs were very happy when I got home from work and looked very happy in all of the pics I got from her!

Information Christy D. would like to know about your pet

I'm happy with all breeds of dogs. Medical information, allergies, walking aptitude and temperament is important to know up front. I would also like to know if your dog has anxiety about certain things, people or sensitive areas of their body. Leash behaviors, word commands you use or behaviors/commands your dog is learning are also very useful. While I am happy to work with quirky or shy dogs, I can't accept short term requests to sit for dogs with people aggression or territorial aggression. I have had clients in the past with dogs who bark, snarl, bare teeth, etc and we had stellar outcomes, but we worked together over several weeks to acclimatize their frustrated furry friend using a training plan from a professional trainer. If you have consulted a trainer, I am happy to help implement the prescribed training plan!

A typical day

Seward has a wonderful Dog Lodge that I recommend for dogs that get along with others. I'm here for those who need one-on-one or who aren't accepted at the Dog Lodge. Going on an all day fishing trip? I'm happy to swing by and make sure your Sprinter van or RV is still in one unchewed piece and offer a walk and potty break for your friend while you're out. Going on an overnight kayaking trip but camping out of your RV? If your dog can't be safely boarded somewhere or you want them to stay in your happy mobile home, I'll bring over my sleeping bag and be their buddy through the night!
