I love animals and work at the Zoo!
Pet care experience
Hi everyone! My name is Christian and I have always loved animals since I was a kid. This led me to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation biology in which I’ve taken multiple animal related courses, such as zoology. Since pursuing this degree, I’ve worked at aquariums and zoological institutions such as The Omaha Zoo, in which I’m currently working for now. My position at the zoo is part time, so I am pursuing pet sitting as a means of supplementing my income from the zoo. I grew up with cats and a dog and I currently have a cat and dog at home. I am no stranger to pet sitting, and I would love to help take care of your pets, whether that would be a dog, cat, bird, Guinea pig, fish, etc.. I have experience walking, feeding, bathing, nail trimming, socializing, and training with many of these animal species.
Reviews
Christian, who also works at the No. 1 rated North American Zoo, the Omaha Zoo, is authentic in his love for animals! He is personable, prompt and conscientious! You won't be disappointed and neither will your pet!
This young man has an outstanding energy and willingness to work. I’ve found that a tip goes a long way with him and he was always willing to go above and beyond for me and my furry family
Christian is Very intuitive and in sync with my pets needs. He is Loving towards my pet and playful with them. He asks what my needs are for my pet and takes direction well. He is a natural with all animals. He was able to tell from my pets behavior that my dog was sick and I was able to get my dog to the vet early before the problem worsened. He was flexible in his schedule and went above and beyond when I really needed a last minute caregiver. My pets adore him and love to be near him.
Christian is a genuine guy that has a lot of experience with animals. He grew up as an animal lover and has owned animals himself. He has also taken care of animals that are more advanced to care for in his profession of animal husbandry. I’ve worked with him as an animal caretaker at a zoo and aquarium and I can confirm that he is reliable, hardworking, strong, friendly, and intuitive, which are all great qualities in an animal caretaker. He has watched my dog before when I was out of the house and he took great care of my dog, making sure that he was fed, had water, went to the bathroom outside, and they even went on a walk.

First of all, it’s very important that they have access to an abundance of clean water and are given the appropriate amount of food daily. It is also important to appropriately exercise them (larger dogs require more exercise than smaller dogs) and socialize with them so they are emotionally stimulated (happy and healthy). With my dogs at home, their water dishes are cleaned and replaced with fresh water daily. My cat free feeds on his kibble so I make sure that is filled daily, but my dog gets a specific amount morning and afternoon because he tends to overeat if allowed. We walk our dog daily and are working on training our cat to enjoy walking outside in a harness. We also make sure to incorporate some sort of playtime everyday, whether that be playing with a squeaky ball in my dog’s case or playing with a toy tiger in my cat’s case. I believe that by doing these tasks daily, I ensure the animals safety and fun, which is important for their wellbeing. It is important to complete these tasks in coordination with what you and your pet desire. As you know your own pet better than me, I am very receptive to the kind of care and tasks that you would prefer. I have experience building trust with the animals I work with, and I can adjust my approach to build trust depending on your pet’s behavior. Some pets may require more patience and delicate care to gain trust. I do also have experience administering oral and intramuscular medication to animals throughout my jobs in zoological institutions. However if your animal would require this from me, I would love to discuss their comfortability with receiving these medications to ensure that we are both safe during the process.
Information Christian H. would like to know about your pet
I think it is important to know about medications ahead of time and the best ways that their owners administer the medication, but I also think it’s important to know what the animals favorite things are to help them warm up to me.
A typical day
I think fun activities to do are walking and playing, cuddling on the couch ( if they are allowed there) and making sure the animals has plenty of enrichment and playtime. I prefer going on walks with a greener atmosphere because it’s always fun to watch your pet play in the grass!
