Saving lives and caring for animals

Pet care experience

I have always been an animal lover: From horseback, dogs, birds, bunnies, hamsters, etc. I currently own two Potcake dogs from St. Lucia and a parakeet. I began volunteering in Animal Rescue in November 2022. I am passionate about saving the lives of stray dogs in the Caribbean and volunteer heavily with To The Rescue, Inc., Paradise Rescue and Save A Friend P.R.- Puerto Rico, and support the Humane Society of St. Thomas, USVI. The tasks that I assist with include: Administration, operations, creating structure, marketing/social media marketing, website promoting, recruiting volunteers, coordinating transports/planning travel logistics, fostering, collecting donations, engaging with adopters, reviewing/approving applicants, maintaining relationships with partnered affiliates, providing various lines of communication, team building, adoption event assistance, offer basic training methods, and assist other rescuers where applicable. Since I have dedicated myself to these sweet, deserving dogs from the islands, I have transported/fostered/lined up/homed 50+ dogs with the continuation of saving more. Additionally, I volunteered at the Humane Society of St. Thomas, USVI in September 2023 by providing support throughout the shelter, delivering donations, and spreading awareness. Healthcare, safety, and being detail oriented are critical in the line of rescue. I am a planner, routine worker, and express the impact of consistency. I go above and beyond with communication and proactive methods, ensuring my dogs/fosters are on time with their vaccinations and monthly preventatives. A meaningful piece of rescue and caring for any animal is teaching them how to trust, love, and grow their confidence. The most important part is becoming their voice and placing an impact on the lives in need of saving.

Christa is the biggest animal lover I know. She works tirelessly to support shelter animals and find homeless pets new homes. She constantly fosters and advocates for shelter pets. I worked with her personally to get a pets with wings puppy from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands to his new home in Virginia. She has extensive knowledge and experience in caring for pups of all breeds and sizes. She is the most caring individual. I recommend her 100% and would trust her with the care of my pup on any occasion. She is an Amazing individual.

I almost cannot convey in words what a wonderful human Christa is. She has a deep love and respect for all animals and carries the mission to help them. She does tremendous amounts of rescue work taking on active roles of fostering and rehoming dogs of all ages. She has adopted two rescues of her own. Her home is perfect to care for animals as she has the experience and love. She keeps them safe and makes them her priority. I have no reservations recommending her as a Rover caregiver. She is a true gift to these animals and their families as they will land in a wonderful home.

Christa is incredibly dedicated to the pets she cares for. I met Christa last year through our joint rescue efforts and have watched her save and foster many dogs since that time. She is so very conscientious and loving with each of her foster pets. She makes it a priority to understand each pet, where they are developmentally, what they need and ensures their needs are met. Each pet she has taken care also gets to learn from her resident dogs who are both very loving, well behaved and great teachers. From basic commands to crate and house training, Christa works to ensure theses pets are safe and well on their way to be the best new family addition they can be. Great work Christa!

Christa is so incredibly dedicated to her rescue work! I met her in the process of adopting, my dog Chiquita, and she was so incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. It is extremely evident how passionate she is about all things dogs. From her own fur babies to the babies she helps save. I would trust her with my babies any day!

Safety, trust & environment

I am very particular with safety and health. I have crate trained my two potcakes as well as all of my fosters. I use a slip lead with my fosters to ensure safety and to alleviate the possibility of issues arising. I keep my home “puppy proof”, while paying closer attention to my fosters, as needed. I remain on track and ahead with proper healthcare to ensure vaccinations/treatments are up to date. I am a planner, routine worker, and all about praising/teaching consistency.

Information Christa S. would like to know about your pet

I ask to communicate previous training methods and current needs for your pet. I like to be on the same page not only with your pet but with their owners. Details and structure are important for my own animals and for any other that is in my care.

A typical day

I have a ton of safe toys such as Nyla bones and Kong toys. Stuffed toys are put away/monitored where needed. There is also a tennis court nearby. I take my girls to certain, safe fenced in parks (when they are not crowded). I have an interactive puzzle game for puppies.
