Loving, professional, & attentive

Pet care experience

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my profile! I am excited to help you give your furry friend the best life possible. :) About Me: There has almost never been a day in my life without animal companions. I grew up with cats and dogs - Maltese and German Shepherds - going to dog shows with my mom and obedience training with our family dogs. I even did a stint at riding camp as a pre-teen and started pet-sitting for family friends around the same time. Now my partner and I have a furry little family that includes our 2 kitties, Meowy and Jonas, and 1 puppy head, Papaya, all 3 rescues. I started my animal care journey doing informal paid and unpaid pet care for friends and family, and since moving to Saratoga, have made it my primary job. I am deeply familiar with what it takes to love and care for the furry creatures that make our families complete, as well as the ways each animal, just like each human, requires their own kind of care. I have been focusing in particular on caring for special needs and senior animals, and have experience administering injections and extremely regimented medication schedules. My philosophy is that as scary as some treatment demands may seem to some people, even some sitters, that if it is your animal, you step up to provide the care they need. I often work with my partner, Zach, who is also on Rover, on longer and/or bigger jobs. They have many years of experience as a sitter, walker, and daycare caregiver in the NYC metro area, and as a couple, we are able to provide another option, and a level of care that one sitter usually cannot. Please don’t hesitate to ask about the possibility booking us together, or splitting a longer or more complex booking between us.

We hired Charlotte to watch our 2 boxers. Very nervous, as they had only stayed with family. My older dog, in particular, is very picky about who she trusts. Charlotte worked slowly and patiently with her. The stay went so well. Charlotte was so great with our dogs. Communicated clearly with us, and followed our directions to a tee. We are so lucky to have found her. Totally trust her with our home, and more importantly, our dogs!

I am so grateful to have found Charlotte! She is a professional through and through. Our pets were loved and doted upon in her care. Our pup is very shy and cautious around new folks, but Charlotte’s patient, kind, and compassionate nature helped to warm him right up. I highly recommend Charlotte and we look forward to having her look after our pets again in the future.

Safety, trust & environment

New Client Meet & Greets: Whether for drop-ins, or house sitting, the top priority of course is keeping your pet happy, healthy, and safe. Coming in a close second is communication with the client, making sure everyone is comfortable with one another, and that we are on the same page regarding the care I will be providing for your furry friend(s). I usually require meet and greets with new clients in advance of the first booking, for your safety and mine. (In some instances when an in-person meeting isn’t possible, we can arrange a virtual meeting.) While there are always lingering questions, and you can never foresee every situation that might arise, I find a brief, low-pressure, in-person meeting with the owner present is the best way to introduce myself to new furry friends, reduce the potential for misunderstandings and miscommunications, and make sure we have a great time together. Animal care is a deeply personal thing. Many clients have a particular way they'd like their pet fed, walked, and cared for - not to mention how they'd like their homes treated. As a detail-oriented person in my own home and pet care, I work hard to understand the clients' wishes in as nuanced a way as possible before our booking, and always try to apply the same high standard when entrusted with the care of your pet and your home that I do in mine. During our meet and greet, we will fill out an intake template together that I created based on my experience - a sort of cheat sheet that covers each pet’s food, bathroom, medication, and sleep needs, allergies, behavioral issues, notes about housekeeping, and more.

Information Charlotte P. would like to know about your pet

During our new client meet & greet, we will fill out an intake template together that covers these questions and more: - Does your pet require daytime coverage? - Which commands does your dog respond well to? Which does your dog not know, or are they working on? - Are there any things that spook - things or behaviors - them or set them off? (Who would guess that some dogs get scared when you wear hoods!) - Are there any other behavioral issues I should know of? History of accidents? - How about health - does your dog have any allergies or history of illness I should be aware of just in case? - Is your pup good with other dogs? And would they like to make friends with a calm, well-behaved 7.5 year old chaweenie mix named Papaya? - What is the contact info for their vet and a nearby emergency contact? - What games/toys/treats does your dog LOVE? While you can never prepare for every scenario, I like to think that getting as clear as possible on expectations up front and covering the kinds of basic health and safety details that we can anticipate can go a long way toward keeping your pup safe, and making everyone feel as secure as possible.

A typical day

A typical day with your dog will always include the basic needs that we’ve discussed - meals, meds, potty outings, play time, snugs - and communication with you. I usually send comprehensive updates after meals unless you've requested otherwise, so you'll know everything that has been going on in hilariously vivid detail, accompanied by a selection of the cutest, handsomest, and/or silliest photos I’ve taken with my new friends since the last update. For the parts of the booking not surrounding the meals and outings, or the maintenance thereof, (paw washing, prepping meds, re-reading our intake template etc.,) you'll probably find me on the ground with your pup on the other end of a rope toy, or snuggling on the sofa if they're allowed. Perhaps, I’ll be working with them on a command they’re trying to nail with some little pieces of a peanut butter treat, or trying to clean their stinky little mouth with some tooth wipes if they'll let me. ;) And of course no booking would be complete without a little photo session! One of the hats I wear is that of the photographer, so sitting introduces me to some very handsome furry subjects. Please don't hesitate to inquire about portrait sessions! Other than that, do you have specific requests? Let's talk!

I am a freelance multimedia artist and recent transplant to the Capital District from the NYC area. Pet care has been a great way to earn money doing something I love, while also being able to pursue creative projects and take other work. I am available to take one house sitting booking and a handful of drop-ins per day, so my overnights are a full not 24 hr sits by default - more like 5 PM to 9 AM. Clients who need daytime coverage most often book out one or more drop ins, which I offer to overnight clients at a steep discount. And with enough advance notice, and a fee that reflects the labor involved in the services, I can usually make myself available for whatever your needs are, however complex.
