I've owned dogs my entire life. I've been the primary dog walker in my house for most of my life. I've trained my young boxer/pit mix to walk loose leash and I have trained past family pets to walk on their leads. I have experience walking family pets that are high energy pit mixes around 40-60lbs, one with a strong prey drive. I prefer walking with a harness or martingale style collar so there's less chance of the dog slipping their collar. Martingale collars are available with fabric control loops and check chains. They tighten when the dog tries to back out preventing an escape and can be beneficial when training the dog as well. My girl Hera and I prefer talking our walks in the woods whenever possible. Getting out and exploring nature is relaxing and enjoyable for both of us. Hera is our camping, kayaking, hiking, and running partner.
