The Other Dog Whisperer

Pet care experience

My family & friends have been calling me The Dog Whisperer for decades. I’m pretty dang good with dogs 🐶 (& cats 🐈‍⬛. that’s not a panther; I’m out of practice with those). God blessed me with an inherent, innate, reciprocated love for animals. I have had 2 Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and a German Wirehaired Pointer (a rescue). My 2 boys, 1 Griff & my GWP, both got cancer—at the ages of 5 and 2, respectively. The girl you see in the pics with me, Sookie, just went to Glory 9 months ago, at the age of 12. Needless to say, Sookie developed a few Golden Girl issues in her senior years, to which I very attentively attended, thus giving me some experience in the geriatric genre. I gave Sookie meds & supplements 3-4X a day, gave her monthly shots, frequently aspirated lipoids, got her through a knee surgery, sensitive skin issues, hand-cooked her food & hand-fed her the last 2.5 years , etc. My 5-year-old boy, Buck, went through chemo for 5 months. My other boy, Lincoln, a rescue, died of a very rare brain tumor at 2. I have also assisted in tending to some of my family’s dogs’ issues. I’ve given them shots, cooked for & hand-fed their dogs, bathed them (the dogs-not my family members😜), toted them around, etc., etc. Hence, I’m extremely familiar with fervently & lovingly tending to doggie health issues and quirks. I totally get it. The old adage rings true when I say that losing Sookie rocked my world. She was my baby and my bestest friend. She got me through some crazy stuff the last 6 years: losing her brother (the GWP), breast cancer, a divorce, yada yada. She was so vivacious, endearingly loving, smarrrrt (my little stephen hawking), hilarious…you get the idea. The irony is that, since Sookie went to Glory on August 3, 2022, I have been sporadically & intermittently walking and sitting for the pets (dogs, cats, and, yes—fish) of my family, friends, neighbors, and a vacation cottage complex at Madeira Beach. I’ve been doing that for about 35 years, intermittently, but since Sookie went to Glory, my schedule completely opened up, and…BOOM. My phone hasn’t stopped blowin’ up. Whodduh thunk, huh? It’s true—God does indeed have a sense of humor😆.

New to the area and terrified of leaving my boy with someone other than his other mommy! Fear alleviated. Cary was AMAZING and my crazy boy (who decided to gilet sick ? right before) was beyond amazing! My house was cleaner than when I left and Tucker coulda cared less that I was home….a true testament that he was completely comfortable. We will be utilizing Cary’s services again and are so grateful to have found her. 10 out of 10!

Cary was great! This was my first experience with Rover. I have a senior mid sized dog and a deaf chi. I needed to be out of town for 3 1/2 days. I have never board my pets. I was a little anxious to have a stranger in my home with my babies. And, tho my tiny chi was challenging (doesn’t like strangers) she managed to win him over the first day! My babies were happy and not stressed when I returned. And, my house was tidy. Totally recommend her!

I highly recommend Cary with your pet, she was very communicative and sent pictures/updates the entire stay. We were very grateful for her attention/care to our boxer.

Safety, trust & environment

I am currently, and temporarily, in a position where I cannot watch a pet where I am temporarily residing. However, I am more than happy to do overnights at a client’s home (I’m super honest & trustworthy).

Information cary h. would like to know about your pet

It is vital to know what commands to which a dog adheres, listens. For instance, what is the dog’s command to stay/stop/wait/whoa? What to do upon departing from the dog is also important. Give it a treat? Play some classical music? All of the above? I have had 2 dogs who died of cancer young, and 1 who passed at 12-years-old. I went through surgeries with all 3 dogs, so I know my way around that territory. I am also well-versed in administering oral & topical meds, giving injections, and the ilk.

A typical day

I love being outdoors, so walks and runs are a cinch. I know how to play games with dogs—fetch, tug-of-war), chase, hide & seek, etc.I also know how to use the doggie-voice-inflection, without changing the sound of the word (like not saying ‘ wekfust’ instead of ‘breakfast’..haha).
