I worked as an animal caretaker at a pet shelter located in Santa Monica, California, for the last six years. Some of my duties were: Keeping cages clean and sanitized. Feeding the animals, including providing special diets as needed. Monitoring the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately reporting it to the supervisor or veterinary technician. Medicating animals as directed Walking, feeding, and picking up after the animals. Provided enrichment to animals to include utilizing exercise areas/walks, activities and companionship. Participated in behavior shaping/training of animals to enhance their adoptability. Doing laundry, dishes, washing windows, cleaning and mopping public areas as needed. Promoting a humane and caring attitude toward all animals. Assisted with grooming & bathing of animals as needed. Working courteously and cooperatively with other staff members.
