Local care for local pets

Pet care experience

I have had dogs, cats, and horses my whole life and I love to go on walks and runs. I have been doing house and pet sitting for many years and will always make sure your pet is healthy and happy. I am comfortable with large dogs as well as small dogs. I have had dog CPR training and experience with various medications and treatments for animals that need them. I have taken care of a cat that needed daily insulin injections. I have volunteered at various animal shelters and with several rescue programs. I am able to work with specific needs and requests. I will do walks in most weather!

Carly has been my primary pet sitter for almost 10 years. I should, first, say that my pets are my children. No matter how much I like someone, very few people meet my criteria as capable to care for either my dog or my horses. Carly immediately showed herself, even as a youth, as one of the limited few who I felt I could trust to care for my babies. Ok, my cats... My cats are fairly easy to care for. Clean their boxes, top off their monthly kibble container, and refill their 5 gallon water when needed. I never worried about Carly caring for them. The plus, here, is that I knew if there was an emergency, Carly would do her best to insure my babies safety, be it due to fire, or because one of my cats was acting off. It didn't happen often, but if one of my cats was ill, Carly promptly let me know (as per our agreement) and did as I asked to care for my baby. Due to time commitments, Carly rarely was able to pet sit my dog for long periods of time. I always had complete confidence in her being able to do so, and checked with her many times to see if she would be able to take our girl while we were gone, but timing rarely worked out. She was able to check in on our girl a few times when we suddenly were unable to take our dog with us and had to be gone for the day. Carly always handled those situations fine, and it was always a relief to know that our dog was in competent hands. Although Carly rarely dog sat for us, her confidence in handling animals meant that she was able to handle my dominant doberman just fine, and I was always trying to get on Carly's busy schedule. My horses... Of all animals, horses are both easier and harder to care for than most other animals. 99% of the time horses are fine. When they aren't fine, there is a 30% chance that their problem isn't serious, and you can completely ignore the injuries they have given themselves, or you can catch them and spray them with the correct spray and they will be totally fine. The other 60% of the time, when they aren't fine, they are teetering on their death bed. In those circumstances 30 minutes could be the difference between them living or dying. Oddly enough, with the serious cases, you still only need to call in a vet maybe 20% of the time, or less. Just being able to see the situation and understand the difference is something that most people seem unable to really understand. In fact, most people get those situations totally backwards, and only call the vet for the situations where the vet really isn't necessary, or where you could solve the problem best by dealing with it yourself. This is again an area where Carly shines, and why I was constantly asking her to horse sit for me. She can smoothly handle most horses correctly in a manner which keeps the horse from becoming more stressed. She can observe a situation and see if she can handle the problem. If she is unsure, or knows she can't handle the situation, she will contact people in the order you request her to (we always gave Carly a list with an order of who to contact to evaluate any situation she was unsure of, and Carly had to follow that list several times over the decade she horse sat for us). Carly's observations have saved our horses' lives several times, while her following the call list we gave her has kept us from spending unnecessary money (vet visits for horses are VERY expensive). Carly has used her observation skills to notice problems that have saved our horses' lives. Carly has also been very competent in following both written care instructions as well as ones given over the phone when she observed something that turned out she had correctly identified as a life or death situation. In every case she handled the situation perfectly, and I couldn't have been happier to have her being responsible for my babies' lives! ------ Last winter Carly agreed to horse sit for us for 5 days. Normally our California winters are pretty dry and hardly noticeable as not summer. As the time came for us to head out one of our horses severely injured himself, and his injury went septic within 48 hours. If Carly had been unable to care for him, I would have had to cancel my trip (attending a major award ceremony honoring my husband). Carly agreed to medicate this gelding (our most difficult horse to work with), which required 30+ minutes of care 2x per day. We headed off to our out of state activity, and things went smoothly for the first 24 hours... Then, the weather went sideways -- literally! The flooding and high winds were horrendous! Trees, hillsides, and roads were flowing by 2 by 2! Power went out and stayed out for weeks! All access into and out of the county was demolished! My husband and I ended up stuck out of state for a full week; with the weather where we were also being super bad, so there was no way to travel, via train, road, or airplane, all routes were closed... To top all of this off, Carly came down with a bad cold! Despite everything, Carly fought her way to our house 2 times every day to care for our difficult baby! She even ended up having to climb over trees to get there, as several trees came down blocking access to our place, and between the house, driveway, hay barn, and the horses paddock. If Carly hadn't taken such good care of our troublesome baby, despite everything that the world threw at her that week, we would have lost him due to the severity of his health condition. Her dedication, commitment, and steady treatment of our baby saved his life! Honestly, I doubt many people could have handled this gelding for such an extended period of time. To treat him despite so many adverse situations, it really takes a special type of person to follow through on their commitments despite everything getting in the way, even when it means the life of the individual being cared for. A few weeks later we were called out of town due to a family emergency. Not many people would agree to house/pet sit again after their previous situation being such a disaster, but, thankfully Carly was willing. (Which was another big story!) So, what type of person would you be hiring to care for and spend time with your babies, if you hire Carly? Someone you can count on no matter what. Someone who is great with animals, loves them, respects them, and will give her all to take the best care of them simply because that is who she is. My loss is your gain!

Carly has been caring for pets since she was able to walk. As a friend of her family for 10 years, I have watched her grow up fostering dozens of kittens, working with horses, caring for her own cats and dogs, and even raising a lamb in her back yard. Responsible, kind, and knowledgeable, Carly is my first choice sitter for our cats and 2 large dogs.

1/1 dogs have fun. 2/2 scoops up poo. 3/3 your dogs will pee. 4/4 the dogs will want more(walks). 5/5 will bring the dogs back alive. 6/6 checks dogs for ticks. 7/7 your dogs will be in heaven(on Earth). 8/8 is never late. 9/9 cares for canines. 10/10 would let walk dog again.

I have known Carly since a very young and she has always been very compassionate especially when dealing with animals. Carly is one of the most caring people I have ever met. Whether she is taking care of foster kittens, working with horses, or just puppy sitting my dog, she demonstrates an extreme love for what she is doing and for the animals she is caring for. Carly is also extremely responsible. For a full year, she was attending school full time, while also spending many hours a day working with horses. She was extremely dedicated to this job and made sure she was doing the best job possible. Whenever I would go with Carly to work, I could see the care she put into her work. Carly has dedication that shows in all the work she does.

My partner works from home so our dog is rarely alone. We go outside as much as possible but also do indoor play when it’s cold. When at someone else’s house, I am able to stay most of the time during the day with some exceptions.

Information Carly H. would like to know about your pet

It’s important for me to know how often the dog needs to go outside and if they are house trained. I also need to know how they behave around other dogs/animals so I can prepare accordingly.

A typical day

I typically do about 2 long walks per day and then shorter potty walks throughout the day. I am flexible depending on the dog. We do a lot of fetch and hide and seek with toys.
