Mountain Hollow Farm

Pet care experience

While you're away, let your dog have some supervised fun, staying with an experienced, dog-loving family on a 75- acre certified organic farm near beautiful Middleburg, VA. This former dairy farm, turned beef and horse farm, has been in the family since the late 1780's, and is a doggy paradise! We have several safe fenced in areas, a pool that the dogs can enjoy in season, and miles of happy healthy leashed walks across hay fields and dirt roads, just west of the Bull Run Mountain. Walks can be included but most of the dogs enjoy playing in our large fenced in yard. We have been puppy and dog-sitting for friends and neighbors for years, and have been working with Dogvacay for four years. We have really enjoyed welcoming dogs into our family, and have many repeat visitors. We look forward to making you and your dog happy! We will consider special pricing for multiple dogs. We are very experienced dog owners, having owned many breeds and best friends over our lifetimes. Currently the old farm house is home to four dogs, including a service dog from Canine Companions for Independence, who knows over 50 commands, from turn off the lights to open the door. Dad has trained several border collies to be working cow dogs, though they now hang out waiting for him to get home from selling John Deere tractors. Mom and the girls have been very active in a local dog 4-H club, training in agility, rally and obedience, as well as participating in CCI service dog training classes. Mostly, we have fun and love our dogs, but we are experienced and educated enough to make sure everyone behaves and is safe. We are very sensitive to your dog's unique needs, and will make sure the experience is right for him/her. Some of our guests bring their own crates and/or beds, if that's where they like to sleep. We also let dogs sleep in our bed with us, if thats what they are used to! We follow your rules when it comes to getting on beds or sofas, but we do have dog friendly couches in the family room so we can snuggle and watch TV together. Mom works from home, so the dogs are well-supervised, though if your dog likes to ride in the car, they can go along to do errands. High-schooler Christina tends to be the primary "dog-sitter" when she is home from school, throwing the ball, taking the walk, or snuggling on the couch. Daughter Caroline, who has Cerebral Palsy and uses a power chair is a huge dog fan, and has recently started a small business selling dog collars from Kenya, as well as her own art work (she attends the Art Institute, studying graphic and web design). Her business is called Labradorable Designs, in tribute to her first CCI service dog, Sajen, and her new best friend, Shelly. Please set up a "meet and greet", so we can show you and your dog(s) around! Middleburg is easy to reach from Northern Virginia: about 30 minutes west of Dulles Airport on Route 50; about one hour from DC. Like us on Facebook! Mountain Hollow Farm Dog Boarding We now offer full-service grooming through The Studio Grooming Salon of Middleburg . Ask to have your dog clean and fluffy before you pick him up, and we will take them to The Studio for professional bathing and grooming, and you pay them directly.

always a pleasure. I think Gracie has more fun there than she does at home. Hard to leave her behind when we travel and is much easier knowing that she is with people that know and love dogs. It also helps knowing that she will always have a playmate to keep her engaged and exhausted....lol!!! Thanks to Theo the wonder terrier!

Carina is wonderful!! I think my dog likes being with her and family on their beautiful property more than he likes being home with me!

Gracie absolutely adores hanging out at Carina's with her besties!!! So lucky to have someone so close who knows border collies and gets their quirkiness (at times). Also an added benefit that Carina has a dog that can keep Gracie on her toes and entertained - thank goodness for Theo, the wonderdog, who is one of the few who can keep up with or ahead of our baby!

I can't say enough positive things about Gracie's time with Carina. We were so nervous because this was the first time we have taken a long vacation since we had adopted Gracie and Carina helped to put us at ease. She knows dogs and knows how to work with them. Our Gracie had so much fun playing with her dogs and being with her and her family. She sent me updates and pics along the way that made me feel so much better about leaving our fur baby. Will definitely come back to Carina again - fabulous fabulous fabulous!!!

We can usually see at meet and greet that dogs are going to enjoy themselves! Our dogs are very non-aggressive and used to having friends over, so within minutes everyone is playing. We like all dogs, all sizes and shapes.

A typical day

Most of the time, our boarders and "home" dogs go in and out all day. It's very much like camp! In the 5 years we have done home boarding it has been so much fun to watch them play, nap, play, nap. Everyone gets along, stays busy and happy. If the owners agree, dogs get a chance to swim in our pool in the summer, closely supervised, of course!
