Hello! My name is Caitlin and I’m a zookeeper at the Metro Richmond Zoo. I am hands on with feeding, cleaning, and training animals throughout the zoo every day. I may take care of rhinos, cheetahs, reptiles, birds, and a bunch of other species but I also have a background of caring for domesticated animals. Atop of working on a llama farm throughout college, I grew up in a family with cats, dogs, and small mammals. I had a cat that needed seizure medication every 12 hours and another med every 8., which originally gave me the background (and the art) of administering medication to an uninterested individual. Between my personal life and my professional career, I have the experience for making your family safe and the happiest that they can be without your presence :)

Best experience! Caitlin was so attentive e, communicated beautifully and most importantly cared for my dogs wonderfully. We will definitely use her again and so appreciate all she has done.
Caitlin did a fantastic job! She kept me informed, and left detailed report cards for me! She also took several photos for me! My dogs loved seeing her and she is excellent at caring for them! My dogs made some messes while I was away and Caitlin cleaned them up very well. I would definitely hire her again! Thank you for caring for our pups over the holidays Caitlin!
Caitlin took great care of my cat while I was gone for the weekend. Caitlin did several drop-in visits, and made sure to update me on my cat's well being. Caitlin was attentive to the details and made me feel at ease while I was away. If I need assistance in the futute I will definitely be reaching back out!
Caitlin is an amazing animal caregiver! She has been an animal lover her entire life and even worked at the local, Lynchburg Humane Society, caring for all the animals there. Caitlin is trustworthy, honest, and a hard worker! You will be so glad you hired her, once you see how wonderful she is at caring for your fur-babies. I do not have a fenced in yard, but my dog was trained to not stray and come to me when called. Apollo is very friendly with other adult people, but sometimes is scared of children and other dogs. I have crated him before when people have come over, due to me not knowing his reaction.

A typical day
Dogs and cats are definitely like the animals at the zoo where they need to be stimulated and excited daily. So I have emphasized the importance of walks and finding new smells for Apollo or taking him out with me to explore when I’m off the day. Car rides are a big source of entertainment for him and other animals I’ve watched. I also love down the road from a little secluded park that I will often visit.

Availability
I currently work at a zoo, so I have a pretty ideal 9-5 p job that I have a set routine for. My dog, Apollo and I walk early in the morning before I get ready for the day and then eat breakfast before I give him his toys and enrichment for the day. Once I’m home we do a similar routine before settling in for the night. I’ve learned a lot from him alone, due to him being a high-energy dog.
