I have lived with and cared for dogs, cats, and horses my whole life. I worked as dog and cat kennel staff at a humane society for several years as well as assistant manager. This involved cleaning, feeding, medicating, exercising, socializing, and training of dogs of all kinds, temperaments, behaviors, and training levels. I also have observed at vet clinics, where I learned a lot about medical care and first aid practices. Additionally, I cared for my own senior dogs through cancer and kidney disease, which involved daily subcutaneous fluids. I’ve been the family dog trainer since I bought “Dog Training for Dummies” book at about 10 years old. I’m familiar with potty training puppies, teaching basic commands, and clicker training advanced skills like filing their own nails on scratch boards, spins, and jumps. I believe in fear-free positive reinforcement training methods and practice clicker/marker training daily with my own dogs. I’m experienced with reactive dogs and selective dogs who may not be good with other dogs or meeting new people. I can read dog body language and can tell when they are stressed or afraid. As a reactive dog owner myself, I know how hard it can be to find a sitter that understands or is willing to deal with this dynamic. I also love cats! While I currently don’t have any of my own, my family has always had cats. I’ve fostered newborns, kittens, disabled seniors, and all in between. I’m also familiar with diabetes injections.
