Pet care experience
Hello, my name is Brittany (Conklin) Salyers. We have just recently moved from NY back to FL. Ive been in animal care since 2011, not counting personal ownership. I have the medical and behavioral knowledge needed to care for any pet. At this time I only watch dogs in my home. Hopefully we can expand that in the near future. While in my care they would enjoy unlimited time outside when we are home, naps on the couch, inside play time, and the energetic company of my dogs. Should your pet enjoy bedtime in a kennel, I can provide this. Or should your pet rather to sleep in bed with me, I welcome that as well. I aim to make your pet feel at home. For a successful visit you pet would need to be friendly with small kids, cats, and my own small/medium dogs. If your pet is on medication, I can provide quality care as well. I have experience with pets who are diabetic, have seizures conditions, pets who need fluid treatments during the visit, and several other conditions needing medical treatment. I am comfortable with working with pets who have fear aggression too. I can also provide transportation should your pet need an emergency vet visit. Keeping an owner updated on their pet is my biggest priority. I love sending updates with pictures and stories from our day. Rest easy knowing your pet is safe and loved while your away. About myself: I was a kennel manager for a local large veterinary facility from 2011 to 2015. Then worked as a lead receptionist and vet assistant from 2015 to 2021. Im from Florida but moved to NY in 2011. In February I moved my family back to Florida. During my time in NY we also worked with the local SPCA doing foster care. We worked with a number of different pets and medical conditions. I specialize in neonates, and fear aggression. We often took in pets who would have otherwise not been adoptable. We would host these pets, working through their issues until we found their forever homes. We have recently welcomed a new baby in August 2023. While this does not take away from the care we provide, some dogs can be more sensitive to the little ones. If you feel your pet may be more sensitive please let me know. 🙂

Mia (pug) and Missy (Heeler) stayed here for 5 days. My Heeler is usually skittish around other dogs; she’s a very anxious dog. I truly believe that she felt very comfortable at this sitters house. When we first got there the home seemed clean, and the sitters 6 dogs were outside and the numerous cats were put up. However, when we arrived to pick the girl’s up, all of the animals were indoors and the place smelled very strongly of animal. While picking up as well, the sitters chihuahua started a hacking fit that the sitter blew off as old age hack. Unfortunately for us, both of our girls have come down with serious Kennel Cough. My pug’s is so bad that she is retching up anything she eats with a white foam. We are extremely upset as we feel this was a cleanliness issue that was not caught by the sitter. Once this cleanliness issue is resolved, I believe Brittany and Matt will make wonderful sitters. However, we will probably not use them again as this illness has really burned me.

We have a fully fenced in property and plenty of land to play and run on. Should your pet need to be more at hand, we have a smaller fenced in area attached to our home. We do have kennels available for smaller dogs, for larger dogs you would need to provide your own kennel. At this time we are only housing small and medium dogs.

I would love to meet your pet(s) prior to your departure. This is to make them more comfortable once your gone. I enjoy learning their likes and dislikes, normal routine and where they prefer to sleep. I do require you to inform your vet that you have a petsitter, so that your pet can get medical care should an emergency arise. Also that you leave a written permission slip for your vet. Up to date Rabies and Distemper vaccines are required as well as use of Flea/Tick products. Proof of these are appreciated. I do encourage you to bring your pets food and treats. Pets enjoy having their own comfy bed or blanket. I also recommend a toy or two from their favorite stock pile at home!
A typical day
I enjoy taking the time for your pet to become comfortable with me. I believe that a pet should trust me as much as they do you the parent. I want all animals in my care happy to see me! Once we are all comfortable, we would play with approved toys, enjoy favorite treats, and for our K9 friends, enjoy time outdoors. Should your pet enjoy being brushed out as part of our day, i can accommodate that as well!

Availability
My husband and I do our pet care as a team. Unless we are running to the store or an appointment, your pet will never be alone. My husband works full time while I am home with our kids. My oldest son is in school and our two youngest are home (2yr & infant). Your pet would be integrated into our daily playtimes and down time. 🙂
