Attentive and Understanding

Pet care experience

Growing up I’ve always had an affinity for animals. Covering my notebooks in doodles of birds, exotic animals and dogs. Having a knack for science related subjects I decided to study Veterinary Technology at LaGuardia Community College. Upon deciding a degree in Veterinary Technology was too limiting, as I wanted more opportunities to work with animals in different settings, I decided to change my major to the much broader field of Biology, but not before taking some essential classes. While enrolled in LAGCC I took classes covering topics of basic strategies used for dog training, common ailments, heat cycles, gestation periods, digestive system, skeletal system, and muscular system in both dogs and cats; as well as other small household pets and farm animals. I have since changed my major to Biology, and am expecting to transfer to City College in fall 2019 and take classes part time (while still dog sitting of course!). Apart from caring for my own dog since 2010, I have formerly partnered with a separate dog walking app for about a year, giving me the opportunity to walk various dogs around my neighborhood, each having a very different personality, temperament and energy level. While working with peoples pets I realized there were certain dogs other walkers weren’t booking, I also noticed other walkers had written off putting notes about these dogs too, sometimes even mislabeling them as aggressive. To me these notes were inaccurate, as when I personally met these dogs I didn’t see a dog that was being difficult or ill mannered on purpose, I just saw a dog. A dog that may have been scared of a new human while their owner was away, a dog that never learned commands and is confused, a dog whose separation anxiety may be compounded by a new handler, a dog that has arthritis and may have trouble walking which may be compounded by weather or other factors –a dog that is just doing the best they can. I strive to provide care for dogs with common problems I’ve come across which include: -Puppies so that they don’t develop fear based behaviors that comes from inappropriate handling, and help you reinforce any training you may have started. -Hyper/ energetic dogs so that they can get a bit if the energy release they need. -Anxious dogs so that they can get a patient, soothing touch and open them up to being more relaxed. -dogs with arthritis/ other common ailments that require accommodations or medication. -Breeds that get a bad rep- like Pitbulls or Rottweilers. -and others! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to shoot me a message! Services and Rates are below.

Brianna was great, very conscientious, left a detailed description of the visit, clearly loves dogs. I feel very comfortable having her as a caretaker for my puppy.

My dog Barley, is a senior citizen rescue dog and Brianna is such a blessing to have! He loves when she comes over to play with him. Barley can be a little grouchy at times but Brianna is so pleasant that she just melts it away from him. She helps to adjust to his schedule (sometimes he has low-mobility days) and keeps him motivated when they're playing. Barley really enjoys going on walks with Brianna and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Brianna is a genuine dog lover and delightful human being. She cared for my aging Italian Greyhound with compassion, understanding, patience, and kindness. She is an absolute professional and a pleasure to deal with. She kept me informed with messages and photos at all times, so I was never for one moment concerned about my pets wellbeing. She put my mind at complete ease, which is priceless for anyone leaving their precious fur-baby at home while traveling. She was pro-active, and went over-and-above expectations to ensure my pet was well cared for while I was away. I have no hesitation in recommending her, and will definitely be a repeat customer.

My dog Katie took to Brianna the minute she met her. Brianna was great about meeting Katie in advance. She clearly love dogs. She was an excellent and reliable caretaker. She sent me texts telling me how Katie was doing while I was away. Brianna is a pleasure to work with. I will definitely hire her again.

Information Brianna M. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know of any conditions your dog has and any medication they are on, even if I won't be administering any. This is important to know incase of any emergencies. Before a first walk I generally like to go through: •Any food allergies or sensitivities. •Any triggers your dog has (do they lunge at people on bikes? Get super excited when they see a toddler with a ball? Scared of their own reflection?) •Any unfavorable behaviors (do they scrounge for for food and eat random things on the sidewalk? Try to jump on people when greeting?)

A typical day

Walks: Regular and slow pace walks: a walk for your pal to sniff the roses and go to the bathroom. I always walk at your dogs pace, not rushing them, so they can sniff and mark what they want without their leash being tugged on. Includes water replacement and feedings. Brisk walks: Perfect for dogs who have lots of energy! I’ll maintain a brisk speed-walking pace for the majority of the walk, while still allowing your dog to go to the bathroom and sniff when they want of course. Includes water replacement and feedings.

From when I get dressed in the morning I'm ready to spend all day with dogs as my first task of the day is to walk my own dog. I personally like to joke that the majority of my wardrobe looks like that of a park ranger, khaki cargo pants are my go-to. Flexible so I can get down low for belly rubs, tough claw-proof material and multiple pockets for storing treats. I try to mold my schedule around walks so that I'm available the majority of the time.
