I have a fenced in front and backyard, pets are primarily only in the backyard. I have an additional large living space built on to the back of my home that allows pets to have their own space away from the resident pets if they choose or if they do not get along with other cats/dogs. There is also a bedroom attached to this room which they are free to roam into. There is a large deep couch and comfortable bed that they can gladly use to give them a sense of comfort and feel at home!
