Not-So-Crazy Cat Lady

Pet care experience

NOTE: I will NOT be taking on any new dog clients for the time being. Returning puppers and all kitties are welcomed. If you are a returning client who paid a lower price for services you can message me and I will do my best to honor the rate you paid last time. I have owned and loved animals my entire life. I have two cats, one is loving and snuggly and has been trained to tolerate everything, and the other one who is … unique. I was lucky enough to get rescued by my shepherd mix that I trained to be a therapy animal and who has been training me for the last 3 years. My parents currently have two dogs at my family home in chicago, who I care for often with my pup coming along to “help”. I spent my entire childhood begging to foster or adopt a new pet every few weeks. I have worked as an intern at a veterinary clinic, in the behavior training area of a shelter, and at a dog daycare. I even entered college with the intention of being pre-vet (it turns out I hate biology lectures). I believe that mutual respect is the key to a happy and safe relationship between me and your pet. That means that I put the needs of your pet over my own desire to earn money. If I meet your animal and I feel that I am not the correct fit for you, I will tell you. If you ask me to perform a service like trimming nails, and your animal shows clear signs of distress, I will not perform the service (and you will not be charged). It means that if your pet needs more of my time or energy than we originally planned (more walks, longer visits, etc.), I will give it, typically without asking for any additional compensation. I have been on rover since 2015 and have never had a bad experience. I have worked with cats and dogs from 6lbs to 120lbs, aged 4 months to 18 years, friendly and loving, independent and aloof, skidding and hesitant. I love spending time one on one with animals and I also worked at a dog daycare dealing with up to 30 dogs at a time. I love cuddling, petting, and playing, so your pet will get lots of petting and TLC. Boundaries, however, are important and should always be respected for everyone’s comfort and safety, so if your pet tells me they want to be left alone, I will love them from a distance. I am familiar with large, strong willed, and high energy dogs. This has taught me to claim a spot as alpha and hold that position for the entire time I work with your dog. I am not one to let your pup walk all over me, so don't worry, he won't get away with sleeping on the couch while you are away if he is not allowed up there. But don’t worry, that will not stop me from giving him lots of love! I understand how cats like to be handled and I’m not afraid of a small scratch, so I have a great time with cats of most temperaments. I’m game if they want to play, always down for snuggles and pets, and I am happy to sit at a distance and let them come to me if they want to. I have a degree in psychology, and though I focus mostly on people, I have been trained in animal psychology as well. Behaviorism is one of my favorite areas, particularly in understanding the unique intelligence dogs have. When I enter a client's home it is my goal to leave it cleaner than I found it. This usually includes cleaning up after myself completely, but may also mean going above and beyond what is expected, such as taking out the trash when I put things in it that may smell. I am in a degree program that is fully virtual, so I spend a lot of my time at home. When I am not running around to various appointments or snuggled up with my own animals I am able to fit in pet care, phone calls, and meet & greets almost any time. I believe that mutual respect is the key to a happy and safe relationship between me and your pet. That means that I put the needs of your pet over my own desire to earn money. I asked Bree to sit for us last minute when another sitter cancelled while we were abroad, and she agreed to step in. It gave us so much peace of mind. Thanks, Bree!

Both of my cats loved Bree and she did a great job taking care of them even over such a long period of time! Also worked with me to figure out a drop-in schedule that worked for both of us, given possible medical concerns at the time.

Bree has dropped in on our cats many times, and always does a great job making sure they are well cared for while we are away!

Information Bree C. would like to know about your pet

I like to know a bit about your dog before I babysit them. What are they not allowed to do? What things scare them? How can I make them most comfortable? Do they need a firm hand or a loving companion? Are they friendly with other dogs and people on walks? How often do they poop on walks (I don't want to be short on doggy bags)? Do they have any special needs I should be aware of (need help up stairs, fall down sometimes, can't chew hard food, etc.)?

A typical day

I am relaxed, easygoing, and fun loving, so when I come to take care of your pet, I come not only to complete a job, but to enjoy myself. I am of the belief that if your pet is having fun, I will be too. I love visits to the dog park, so if your dog is friendly with other dogs and there is an fenced in run nearby, I may ask to take him over there. I love going for long walks, so assuming your dog is in good health, we will probably take some nice walks. I am disabled and have chronic health issues, which do not get in the way of my work with your animal, but due to this I may let you know that I cannot spend the night at your place while pet sitting, or cannot promise long walks as I cannot plan how well I will be on any given day.
