Brandi's Doggo Day Out Exploring!

Pet care experience

Since I was seven years old, I have cared for all types of animals, both personally and professionally. When I was seven, I began caring for equines to pay for my horseback riding lessons. This continued until well into my 20's. In my early 30's, I worked as a veterinary assistant in the Raleigh, NC area. In my mid-thirties, I was diagnosed with cancer and used dog walking to supplement my income and to help me recover from treatment. Toward my late 30's, I began rescuing and rehabilitating equines. I am currently working toward my Assistant Dog Training Certification through E-Training for Dogs, and have audited a course, Managing the Reactive Dog, through FDSA (Fenzi Dog Sports Academy). I have also earned a M. Ed. specializing in trauma-informed behavioral interventions (for children!).

My testimonial for Brandi is sincere and truthful. I am saying this upfront to address the potential issue of bias on my part, because I'm her Dad. Since the age of 7 she has always had a natural ability with dogs, cats and horses, which have been a constant throughout her life to the present. After earning double bachelor degrees she certified as a VetTech and later, earning a masters degree and Teacher certification. With her dogs, she has always gone through the basic obedience classes but has gone on to more advanced training courses including working with trainers individually. This has occurred over nearly 20 years. Currently she has her beloved dog Aria,a miniature donkey,Molly and her horse Luna. All 3 she rescued. Her knowledge and handling ability with your dog will be apparent the first time you meet with her.

Brandi has worked with animals big and small and takes pride in her ability to care for them. She takes great care to ensure all needs are met for her furry friends. There is no doubt that any animal in her care will be happy and loved.

Hello, my name is Brittany Root and I would recommend Brandi as one of the most passionate and loving animal caregivers I've ever met. As a horse, donkey and dog owner herself, she knows the true meaning of compassion towards animals. Shes worked with all types of animals, spent many years working working at a vet clinic and spent much of her own time with horses for well over 25 years. Now, primarily focusing on canines, she's absolutely someone I'd trust with my pets!!

I fully recommend Brandi M as a Rover pet sitter. She has a warm, kind and confident demeanor. Brandi helped rehab my horse when both the horse and myself were injured. She came consistently over several months. I have several dogs who also enjoy her friendship. Brandi has additional training in equine massage therapy and my horse has also enjoyed her talent in this area. Brandi is trustworthy and totally honest. Your animals will be safe and happy while you enjoy your vacation!

I love taking my animals into the wilderness for romping and playing. I would prefer to take your fur baby onto local trails, and, depending on age, athletic abilities, etc., I will even work in some trail running for those creatures with LOTS of energy (I have a Belgian Malinois/Border Collie X, so I am VERY accustomed to high energy, even reactive doggos). My Arya came to me as a rescue with all sorts of behavioral quirks that have required training and large amounts of exercise to address, so I am very comfortable with dogs that have large personalities. I also have a mini-donkey, Molly, that came to me with some significant health concerns and a mare, Luna, that came with behavioral and health concerns. I have addressed these with perserverance, love, empathy and acceptance.

Information Brandi M. would like to know about your pet

I want to know if your dog is reactive, and if so, in what way, e.g., "my dog loves other dogs ---as long as they are off leash..." This statement says a LOT about your dog and will influence my management techniques. Please tell me the truth - NOT a filtered reply. I truly don't mind working with reactive dogs (I will use treats - so please provide any type of dietary needs that restrict treats) but I need to know 1) what they react to 2) how they react, e.g., biting, growling first then barking/lunging, oddly wagging their tale when they are about to go ballistic, etc., 3) what circumstances surround those reactions, e.g., my dog only barks/growls/lunges at people when .... e.g., on a leash, in a car, within 2 feet, 3 feet, etc. These are important details because they show me your dog's threshold/comfort level. If I know this, I can reduce any issues on the trails and on the roads. I would also like to know if your dog has any physiological restraints, e.g., hip dysplasia, recovering from a surgery, soft paw pads, sensitivity to cold and hot, inclement weather (some dogs HATE rain, therefore I would devise games to exhaust your doggo rather than forcing them to walk in inclement weather).

A typical day

A lot of the fun will take place on trails. I am located in Berwick, ME, so I access all the Great Works Conservation trails and have timed them out so that I can find places to fit various time frames.
