My family and I recently adopted a shelter dog, and she's our first dog. She is three years old and a min pin/whippet/mix. I was more of a cat person, until we got her. My sons both really wanted a dog and I thought she would be good for them, and she is! She brings the family together for socializing and playing. I am realizing that dogs pay attention to people and like to be with people. (Not a given with cats). I have to say I'm loving it (dog ownership), and I really like playing with her and going out on walks. I have helped a relative care for her two large dogs in the past, and I spent a lot of time with them. I like to make sure the dogs get enough attention and exercise and get to have fun. I think dog and cat ownership is therapeutic and is a great way to always have fun and activity around. I usually feed my dog in the morning, and take her out for a walk around our neighborhood. I make sure that she's had any medications she needs, and goes out for potty breaks on a regular basis. In the evenings, she gets her dinner and usually another walk. I'm usually available for drop in visits between 9am and 2pm, and also 5pm-9pm. I might have my two well-behaved sons (ages 11 and 13), with me sometimes. They are a great help and I think any dog would enjoy hanging out with them. I'm used to medical issues popping up, and I would get the proper care for the dog right away. I think I would make a great dog/cat/house sitter, because I love animals and I'm conscientious.
