I've been an avid dog lover my whole life. They've taught me the importance of patience, loyalty, and unconditional love. I feel lucky to have dogs in my life as well as those of my friends and family. Caring for pets is a positive humanitarian endeavor as they do so much for us. As a retiree pet care assures I keep moving. Despite the weather pet care assures I'll get out daily to benefit my body, mind, and spirit and that of my best friend. Spreading happiness and well-being is one of the greatest gifts we can share. I feel fortunate to be in a position to do this on a daily basis. It gives my life positive meaning. I like dogs on an extendable/retractable leash to provide a sense of freedom while still maintaining control. I have found a treat pouch can go a long way in grabbing and maintaining the attention of those in my charge. Of course a halter is a must use over a simple collar. Water and a dish left in the car is good to have so as to address needed hydration. I found maintaining an even calm energy is reassuring to dogs who naturally look to their alpha for behavioral cues and treats. One thing I try to do is mitigate the dirt a pet tracks into the house. Important while walking the dog to try and keep them out of mud or puddles. To that end, I keep a towel on hand to clean and dry paws before entering the home after a walk. I enjoy brushing dogs, especially if they enjoy it. I don't mind giving baths so long as there's a tub or shower stall with a removable shower head to assure a good rinse.
