Pet care experience

I work as an emergency room RN at the University Hospital and a job like this requires a lot of empathy, emotional intelligence, and patience. I feel like those traits directly apply to pet care. My partner of seven years and I have two cats at our home near 9th & 9th and we approach their needs as if they are my own children. I ensure that they are not only eating high-quality pet food and treats, but that they are provided quality enrichment throughout the day to keep their minds sharp. This includes playtime, snuggling, and brushing. I also like to promote and advocate for self-care by going outside for long walks and exercising. This means I will ensure that your pet (more specifically your dog) will receive the quality exercise and enrichment they deserve, regardless of the weather or time of day. I will ensure this is done in a safe manner and follow the advice of you (their human parent) as to how long your pet should be out exercising / running around.

Bengi has lots of experience taking care of pets and is amazing at it! I trust him with my dog and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a kind, caring, communicative and trustworthy pet-sitter! Your pet will be in great hands!

Bengi is trustworthy, reliable, and great with cats and dogs! I highly recommend him as a pet sitter. He adopted two cats and is a very caring pet owner. He has been a huge help with my dogs, and I feel relaxed and at ease knowing he is taking good care of them! My dogs can be a little anxious with strangers but Bengi is calm and patient easily winning them over.

I have known Bengi for over seven years, and one of the qualities I most associate with him is his love of animals. He has two cats who he has socialized extremely well and for whom he regularly provides all sorts of enrichment activities. He pet and house sit for my family's dog and did an excellent job. He has been attentive and caring towards every animal I have ever seen him encounter, and he is all around kind, responsible, and a good communicator.

I first and foremost follow directions from pet owners very closely. I listen to how they describe their pets' personalities, character traits, behavioral mannerisms, etc. This gives me a nice background as to how I should approach taking care of your pet because every pet is different. This same philosophy applies to nursing care of human patients. Since every pet / being is different, I approach them as if I am meeting a new human for the first time: set a good impression, get a feel for how they interact with me, and then use that as a tool to establish a trusting relationship. This will (hopefully) not only establish trust between me and the pet, but also with me and the pet's human parent.

A typical day

It all depends on the needs of the pet. If I am caring for a bigger or more elderly dog that needs to just have a nice, gentle walk and use the bathroom, I would likely take them along the Red Butte Creek / Miller Park Path, which is a beautiful trail just south of the University campus and is pretty short. This would provide quality outdoor time, as well as a more gentler walk on their bodies. If I am caring for a younger, more vibrant breed of dog that needs to burn a lot of energy on a daily basis, I would consider driving them to two places: (1) the Bonneville shoreline just on the northeast side of the University campus or (2) drive up to the Avenues, park near Perry's Hollow and hike up the Bobsled Trail towards Avenues Twin Peaks. Once reaching those trailheads, I would take the dog out and allow them to hike with me on those more rigorous trails, ensuring that the dog is receiving the quality exercise and enrichment they need. For either of those two energy levels, I would also opt to going to Liberty Park, which is a 15-17 minute walk from my house. This would allow the dog to experience the variety of smells and have the opportunity to run around the park and meet other dogs / humans.

Availability

My nursing job mandates I work a minimum of three shifts per week, with each shift being 12 hours long. This means that I will more often than not have three-four days off per week to care for pet. As an example, depending on my work schedule, I can be available on a Tuesday at 6:00am or even a Saturday at 7:00pm to take your dog for a morning/evening walk and feed them afterward. I would also be available anywhere in between those hours on days I have off. I try to keep my pet sitting within a 5-7 mile radius of our home near 9th & 9th in order to make it easier to reach your pet/home in a timely manner.
