Premier care in a country setting
Pet care experience
I am a conservation biologist working primarily out of my home on 4+ acres in Montgomery Country. I would love to take care of your dog(s) or cat(s), either in my home or yours. I grew up on a horse farm outside of Boston, and have ridden and owned horses since 1985. At my home, I currently have five goats, two donkeys, three dogs, two cats and two goldfish, as well as two horses boarded off site. Every one of my animals is a beloved family member and I treat my many foster animals and guest pets similarly. I have a soft spot for seniors and have adopted a number of very senior dogs from shelters. Currently, I have Jiaozi, a hospice dog adopted at age 13 years from Florida. He joined 7-year old Diefenbaker, adopted from Texas, and Maeve, a recently foster-failed doxie mix from Georgia. Beyond the experience of caring for my own multitude of animals over 30+ years — not to mention hands-on wildlife expertise ranging from chimps to snails — I owned a veterinary clinic for 9 years. In 1999, I started a nonprofit mobile veterinary clinic to provide free and reduced cost spays, neuters and wellness care for pets of families on public assistance. We treated thousands of dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, roosters, and many others. My 2-acre yard is fully fenced with split rail and interior wire fencing. The deck is also gated on both ends, should I want to corral them while working up there. Additionally, I have two fully-fenced pastures (2+ acres) with wire and post. Even with plenty of play in the big yard, I typically hike with the dogs 5 to 7 days per week.
Reviews
Barbara is excellent. Kept us updated on our dog and lots of pictures.
Penny had a great weekend with Barb! She sent us lots of pictures and a video too. Our sweet pup came home happy and tired from playing in her large yard with Diefenbaker and Maeve. Chasing a tennis ball is Penny's favorite thing to do and Barb was willing to play! Thank you Barb!
Barbara was amazing! She’s extremely knowledgeable about animals, and is so compassionate and attentive. Our dog loved roaming around her fenced in backyard and playing with all the dog toys. Definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a safe, fun, compassionate dog sitter!
Barbara and her hospitality for my dog was nothing short of amazing. Her active lifestyle was a wonderful match for Harley. I will be using her again!

The yard is fully fenced with locks on gates. My dogs are accustomed to new dogs as we foster for the Philly shelter (ACCT) when possible. I put no restrictions on pets in the home, but I’m happy mirror all rules or crate if desired.

Information Barbara C. would like to know about your pet
Has the dog been around cats and/or livestock? Is the dog good with other dogs? Any previous issues with pets or people? Are there any dietary restrictions? Where does your pet sleep? Do you allow your pet on furniture? Is the pet on tick prevention (PA has a lot of Lyme this year!) and any medical concerns or issues?
A typical day
AM - play in the yard before and after breakfast. Depending on the weather, we do a hike in the afternoon. Evening more yard time before and after dinner.

Availability
I work remotely for clients in the western US and Europe. As such, I typically work a few hours early in the morning, and then more later in the day, when the dogs are fairly tired out. The dogs are rarely if ever unattended in the house and never in the yard without me.
