Clowder House of Marietta

Pet care experience

DISCOUNTS for multiple guests! We'll care for your pup as if he or she were our own. Play time/free time in our fenced-in half-acre several times a day. Resident puppy playmates always on hand. Cuddles, healthy snacks (if allowed), and general spoiling available upon request. I spent several years as a volunteer at the Humane Society of Cobb County. We have fostered more than 70 dogs (all of which have now been adopted!) I work from home and can be physically available 100% of the time until your pet is comfortable enough to be on his own for an hour or two at a time (to allow me to run errands). Our home is pet-proofed so your dog can relax on a covered chair or one of many dog beds available. I have cared for many elderly or ailing pets and can give meds, if necessary. In addition, we are located two miles from Cobb Emergency Vet Clinic. PLEASE NOTE: we call our place 'Clowder House' due to the several kitties who also reside here. They keep to themselves when we have visitors, but if your dog is cat-aggressive, we are not going be your best match. IN ADDITION: we now have a lab/boxer/staffy mix. Your pet must be good with other dogs. Lucky-Pie loves making friends and is very well socialized with other dogs. She is large and high energy. We're willing to crate her a few hours a day to give your dog some time to adjust to her. She has helped us foster many puppies and is so kind to senior dogs. AND FINALLY: I will happily take on old friends at virtually no notice. We do need a meet and greet at our home for all potential new guests. References from my own vet (TVC) and various foster groups will be gladly given.

Barbara and Dwight were AMAZING! This was my pups first staycation and she had a blast! They communicate super promptly and the daily updates were awesome. I’m definitely going back to Barbara for my baby!

This is the 3rd time we’ve used Barbara and it’s was another wonderful experience. She sent us pictures and gave us daily updates and treats Peanut like her own.

This was Molly’s second stay with Barbara, and a much longer one: 9 days. Molly had a wonderful time, and she received lots of love and attention. Barbara also provided regular updates on how things were going, so we knew all was well. We highly recommend Barbara!

Safety, trust & environment

All of our furniture is covered with pet proof blankets. Our own dogs are welcome to sit with us on the sofa and they sleep with us at night. If your dog is not allowed on the furniture, we do respect that. In the highly unlikely event that both of us need to be out of the house, we have a very large crate where we can easily put your dog, a bowl of water, a dog bed, and a snack. This is for his for her safety. Our backyard is fenced and great for dogs of all sizes. If we are keeping puppies or very small dogs, we also have a 15x30 foot section where we can keep our eyes on your pet at all times.

Information Barbara B. would like to know about your pet

It is very important that your dog is not aggressive. Some of our cats are very unafraid and will saunter on by. We also have a small senior dog of our own. This is not to say that we don't encourage or enjoy play, even fairly rough play. Lucky-Pie plays a great game of tug. We are about a mile from an emergency vet. We have never had to visit there with a guest pup, but they have been amazing with our own late night and weekend emergencies. We have taken care of many Senior Dogs as well as puppies and know what we can expect from most of them. We are able to give oral and eye or ear drops if necessary. We can also be patient with trying different tempting foods for dogs who don't seem to have an appetite.

A typical day

Our yard is large and varied. We have a large pond with fish and a wooded section as well as a patio and another seating area. Our yard is multi-leveled with a hill and a multi-level retaining wall. Most dogs find this enough variety for sniffing and exploring, running and jumping. There is also a sectioned off area for puppies and smaller dogs who may require a little less freedom to roam. For exercise, we are happy to play ball and our Lucky-Pie is usually up for a game of tug or a chase around the pond. We do not do a lot of dog walking, so if your dog needs to be exercised that way, and we know many do, we may not be your best fit. There are many toys and balls and treats to be had here. We have a lot of high perches for our several cats, who also provide a lot of interest and entertainment for visiting dogs.

I work very part-time from home and my husband is retired. It's very rare that one of us isn't home when we are caring for visitor dogs. We let our own dogs in and out pretty much all day long. When the weather is fine we love to sit out with them and snuggle or play ball.
