The best way I can do this is to tell 2 stories. First, I was watching 2 of my regular dogs while the owner was up in the mountains proposing. He called me the day he left to tell me one of the dogs had some pretty bad diarrhea. Sure enough I get there and it's a big mess. No big deal, I clean it up and then set an alarm for every hour to take him out to try and avoid any other accidents. About his 1am take out time, we go outside (there's snow on the ground) and he poops straight bright red blood. I panic and take him inside where he proceeds to try and gulp water but can't keep it down. I was unable to get a hold of the owner so I rushed him to the emergency vet and signed waivers saying I would pay all fees if the owner declined. I visited him the 2 days he was in the hospital, and when discharging they wanted him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice. So I went to the store, got food, measured and weighed it all, and put it in labeled containers. Yes. I meal prepped for a dog lol. The 2nd instance is a dog that I watch a lot ended up having to have knee surgery. Afterwords she had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia and broke out in hives. She was absolutely miserable and refusing food and water. The owner asked me after the dog hadn't eaten for over 36 hours if I would try to come feed her since we have a "special" relationship. So I went over there at 6am and needless to say she finally ate and kept her meds down 🙂
