Pet care experience
I have been obsessed with learning about animals (particularly dogs) since I was little, reading everything I could get my hands on. It came as no surprise to my family that my first "job" at 10 was volunteering at animal shelters, picking tics off of puppies and scrubbing out litter boxes. In high school I learned how to train service dogs and I started pet-sitting neighborhood animals shortly thereafter. In college I fostered dogs for various rescue groups while I continued to work as a dog-walker. By the time I was in graduate school I had become the local shelter's default medical foster; I was entrusted with medicating and completing physical therapy with post-surgery clients who needed to recover outside the shelter environment. I am very familiar with giving medication, watching for signs of distress, and caring for older animals.
Reviews
We couldn't have asked for a better dog sitter than Avery. She took wonderful care of our Great Dane, Hazel, while we were away. She is reliable, communicative, and caring and went above and beyond to make sure Hazel was happy and comfortable. She even sent us regular updates and pictures, which put our minds at ease. We highly recommend Avery to anyone looking for a trustworthy and loving pet sitter.
Avery and Theo were great with my cranky, particular girl. Avery worked well with transitioning my ' special needs" dog from my home to hers. Pibby was well taken care of and, although she wouldn't admit it, had fun in Avery's back yard and on her walks. I would recommend Avery to care for your pet. Theo and Pib ended sleeping with one another and, of course, barking with one another.
Avery is a fabulous person to work with. I have 2 rescue pups both nervous with new people. I set up 2 walks with her through Rover before our trip to be sure everyone was comfortable. I appreciate her time, and experience. She is amazing!
Avery was so wonderful and really took the time to get to know and understand my dog Bloomy. She took her for long walks and did everything she could to make her stay comfortable. My dog has a lot of energy and can get a bit anxious being somewhere new and I know Avery handled it all very well. I felt so comfortable leaving Bloomy in her care. I will certainly request to have her watch Bloomy again!

I live in a quiet house with a fenced backyard and dog door, perfect for playing, exploring or napping! My own dog, Theo, is an active 11-year-old dachshund mix who delights in having other dogs to chase or cuddle with. Theo does not suffer overly energetic puppies, but has otherwise been a fantastic companion and playmate for countless clients over the past nine years - accompanying me for walks, hikes, and sleepovers. When not caring for pets in my own home I am perfectly comfortable visiting animals in their home. I have walked, thrown balls, and lavished attention on four excited dogs at once. I have filled water bowls, emptied litter boxes, and cleaned messes for the shyest of cats. Whether your pets are social butterflies or elusive ghosts I am happy to be able to give them the best of care.

Information Avery R. would like to know about your pet
Let me know what sorts of rules you have at home! What are you working on? I want to positively reinforce training and be consistent with your rules so that your dog returns even better. Do they have a favorite toy or treat? What's their energy level? Are they dog or people social? Where do they usually like to sleep?
A typical day
Dogs love exploring and playing in the backyard! It's well fenced and full of good sniffs. I like making puzzle/treat games for puppers needing mental stimulation. I love going for walks by the river, and can walk for as long as the dog's energy needs! The more homebody dogs can join me in the yard, thoroughly sniffing plants while I garden.

I have a flexible schedule easy to adapt to my furry guests! I currently work from home as an artist which gives me all the time and energy to look after pups. I am happy to have an excuse to get away from my desk to go for a walk or play tug. I love the company of animals, and certainly appreciate the exercise! When we all tire ourselves out I go back to painting, or indulge in a coffee break on the couch. I spend quite a bit of time in the garden, so guests can snooze on the porch while I plant and prune in the sun.
