Pet care experience
I have been caring for animals since I was eight when my family got two cats. Since then, I've had the pleasure of bathing, walking, nail cutting, brushing, feeding, and playing with all our pets including a dog. I have experience as a sleepaway summer camp counselor where I was responsible for children ages 6 to 15. I cared for eight kids at a time for three months, including a special needs child.

Human Ava was a wonderful care giver to my doggo Ava. She sent updates daily and made sure she was well informed of care needs. Responsive and My pup seemed like a happy girl when I picked her up. Highly recommend!
Ava was super friendly, flexible and communicative! I don't think my doggie wanted to leave her :) She gave him his nexguard without trouble. Sent me daily updates and pics and I knew he was in great hands! Will definitely use Ava again. Thank you!!
Ava was such a great sitter to Lola! She absolutely loved playing with her, I could tell by how well my little puppy slept that night! Lola was pooped! Haha. She really cared well for Lola making sure she had water and was fed. And she also took some adorable photos! Thank you Ava! You are a lifesaver! :)
Ava adores animals and has been lucky enough to have had pets for over 70% of her life. Her two Persian cats, Lola & Roxy, came first and then we added our Bernedoodle, Hugo, to the mix 7 years ago. Lola is still with us and Ava is definitely her "chosen" one still to this day, 15 years later. Hugo adores his "Ava time". His favourite thing is for Ava to make a bed with her legs on the floor into which he curls up and happily sleeps. She has a compassion and love for the animals that they seem to understand and gravitate towards. She is always their safe harbour but she is not a pushover. She attended all the puppy training classes in order to be able to use proper, consistent, commands with Hugo to keep him safe and teach him to walk on leash, ride in the car, and greet new people and dogs safely. The animals miss her terribly when she is in Halifax but Haligonians will benefit from her fabulous pet sitting skills!

For overnight stays, I have a doggy gate I'm happy to put up to keep your pet in a smaller space while they get acquainted with their new surroundings. This helps to avoid overwhelming them and will help them feel more comfortable and safe. I will also make every effort to keep their routine for walks, feeding, and sleep the same as at home.

A typical day
My time with your pet will always be catered to what’s best for them! If they require lots of rest, then I will make sure they have a cozy place to curl up and get comfortable. If your animal is high energy I’ll take them out on walks to explore the new smells in my neighbourhood and even to a few nearby parks. If you’ve been working on developing skills or tricks with your furry loved one, I’m happy to continue to practice those skills during our time together as well!

Availability
I recently completed my undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at Dalhousie and am beginning my Masters in Biology in May. I am currently working as a part-time teaching assistant at Dalhousie, so I will have plenty of time to care for your furry loved ones! I will either be home with your furry friend all day or I will be a quick seven-minute walk away from home on campus.
