Horse Trainer & Vet Tech

Pet care experience

I grew up with a wild variety of animals and eventually became a professional athlete and horse trainer and then vet tech specializing in sports medicine. I live on a ~5 acre property on Tiger Mountain so I like to “borrow” dogs who encourage me to stay active. I typically specialize in working with the more challenging, “special needs” animals. Most of my canine clients have been with either high energy working dogs or highly anxious and/or aggressive dogs. I really miss my old cat, so felines are also very welcome! I will also accept other animals (except snakes). *I do have additional pet/house sitter business insurance, outside of the “Rover Guarantee”.

Ardelle came to our place to do a meet & greet with our dog. Our very anxious Bear warmed up to her instantly! As we talked through all of our dog's needs, Ardelle was very friendly, receptive, and knowledgeable. She has a lot of working dog experience and it shows! That put me at ease really quickly and I'm confident that our dog will be safe & happy in her hands. Thank you, Ardelle!

Fairly certain I get a better dog back than what I leave with ardelle 🤣 she gives the absolute best and cutest updates on all the fun things they do. Ziggy gets the full butt wiggle when he realizes who he's hanging out with. They go outside and run and play and she always has him nice and clean for me to pick back up. And she really just goes above and beyond in all aspects. Ziggy and I are both so happy to have found her and so appreciative of how great she has been for him to hang out with.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a tiny indoor living space, but on a large property that is fenced, but not completely escape proof. I wouldn’t leave them out unattended anyway, but I do also have pens and a 100ft tether line for the escape artists or babies still working on their recall. I attach them to a harness, not a neck collar for safety reasons. I have housed multiple large dogs at once and it’s fine. I turn my garage and the barn into escape proof rumpus rooms with toys and gadgets where they can play. I have large kennels that can be used if needed, and an escape proof porch. The feline visitors love it for some limited outdoor access. All pets will get a GPS tracker on arrival, just in case someone tries to make a break for it or is an exceptional hider. There are interior and exterior cameras on at all times. Overnight dogs must be able to go up and down stairs! Or be small enough for me to carry them, so <50lbs ideally. The barn has a heated wash rack which is very convenient for baths, or at least a hose off if we get muddy playing. I don’t do proper “grooming” services, like hair cuts and breed specific styling, but I can definitely give baths, blow outs, brushing and nail trims. If requested, fee will vary depending on difficulty and time. I have so many pet gadgets, toys and tools; it’s kind of like a free test trial! If your pet happens to really enjoy something, I can recommend lots of various products. I’m great with the high maintenance pets who need things like medications multiple times a day. I can handle just about any emergency, or at least enough care to keep them stable until a vet can take over. Not that I’m advocating practicing medicine without a license 😅 but if some fluke trauma or illness were to occur, I can handle the immediate care. I can also make pretty educated judgment calls on if urgent vet care is needed. In this home, doggies are trained to follow basic house rules. First time guests are not expected to know all the rules, but most get the hang of them very quickly (especially repeat clients!). - [ ] General obedience and leash manners. - [ ] Impulse control. - [ ] No scratching at doors. - [ ] Calmly passing through doors and exiting after the human. - [ ] No excessive barking or whining. - [ ] No jumping on people. - [ ] Coming when called. - [ ] No getting on furniture unless invited. - [ ] No counter surfing. - [ ] Respecting other animals. - [ ] No marking or destruction of property. If your pet is a known offender or highly aggressive, you need you be ok with a kennel/crate, pen, muzzle or drugs if necessary. I have a 10 year old Husky, Lady. She prefers to stay outside where it’s cooler and isn’t really that interested in other dogs, so usually you don’t even notice she’s around. But for our walk/hikes she is my copilot. She’s got the routine down pat and helps the other dogs learn the trail rules. During house sitting requests she can stay at my sister’s. House Sitting Ground Rules: - Must be a smoke and mold free home. - Camera devices fitted to the exterior of a property or doorbell that monitor security of the outside areas such as the porch, driveway and garden are fine. - Any internal cameras or recording devices must be disabled for the entire duration of the sit. I frequently have phone conversations regarding patient profiles and any video or audio recording is a HIPPA violation. - I am a very clean, neat and tidy, detail oriented person. Your house will be at minimum as clean as you left it. Please have your home at least base level clean prior to my stay.

Please make sure your pet profile/s are complete with at least the following information: -What type of food they eat, how much and at what times. -What level of activity they typically do (either in time or distance) and if there are any activities they cannot do. -Any triggers (ie thunder, bikes, other dogs, etc) -Any food aversions or allergies. -Any medical conditions, recurring ailments, other health concerns to monitor. -Please list all medications (and supplements), including dosages and administration schedule. -Primary vet and emergency vet preference information. -Please provide at least 1 emergency contact in case you are unreachable. -House rules (ie are they allowed on furniture, manners you’re still working to establish, basically so we can keep consistent ground rules). -Please provide sufficient food, supplements and medications. -For boarding: I have plenty of beds, bowls, toys, leashes… if you wish to bring additional personal items, please note that I cannot be responsible for the condition of their return. All pets must be up to date on flea/tick medication and vaccinations. All nails must be trimmed. I can do them for you if you cannot have them done.

A typical day

I’m a very active person so I’m usually outside doing things around the property all morning and I try to go for a hike every afternoon. We can do whatever is age/health appropriate. I’m a good candidate for high energy dogs but I can accommodate to what the animal needs. Regular exercise is extremely important (motion is lotion!). I can be sick or dead tired and will still not miss a day of getting everyone to their activity goal.

I guarantee adequate and appropriate exercise. I’m either home all day, usually outside working on the never ending property maintenance or at the barn. The dogs are free to roam about with me, except when horses are out. I leave the garage and barn open with access to toys, beds, and shelter if they choose to go inside. like to take the dogs with me, so if they can’t go in a car, that is something I need to know. I do have a really great dog car set up. This is a part time “side gig” for me, so I do not take recurring requests and I keep my bookings to the near future only. My primary objective is to have a motive to stay active and be a resource for above average pet care, particularly on last minute/emergency notice. ** PLEASE NOTE ON PRICING ADJUSTMENTS!** - My puppy rates are for little ones who still aren’t house trained. If they can sleep through the night without 2 hour potty breaks, and aren’t horribly destructive, then I don’t mind charging the regular adult dog rate. - My walk and drop in rates are for the time spent with the animal/s ONLY. I charge an ADDITIONAL $1.50 per mile round trip, beyond the first 5, to compensate for fuel, time, and vehicle expenses. - This same rate applies for pick ups or drop offs if so requested. - I’m happy to do meet and greets less than ~5 miles away and under 30 minutes free of charge. Any locations beyond 5 miles, I charge the same $1.50 per additional mile. *Travel fee calculated using the shortest routine on Google Maps.* - I am semi negotiable on my listed rates. I’ve marketed myself towards the “extra needs” crowd and am expensing for such expectations, but for really easy jobs/pets I am open to discussing alterations for future requests. -If you request your dog be alone, there will be a minimum $50/day surcharge. I will never mix puppies under 6 months, dogs I do not know or think will socialize well. If it is MY judgement call to keep your dog isolated, there will be no additional fee.
