Compassionate, genuine care

Pet care experience

Pet care is something I have done my entire life, but began really caring for other peoples animals since I was 15. Neighbors, friends, family, and acquaintances have sought me out to care for their pets. Friends and strangers on social media have come to me for advice on their pets, too. My passion for animal husbandry and care runs deep, taking me away from my pre-med schooling and instead moving to animal care. I have worked in animal ERs and specialty hospitals for 2.5 years, and now in the surgery department for 6 months (as of January 2022). I’m currently in school to become a registered veterinary nurse and also plan to earn an additional degree in animal behavior and psychology. If you are someone who also happens to have additional animals (farm, exotic, pocket pets, reptiles, avians) I am also well versed in care for them, too.

Anna has helped us take care of our pets for the last 10 years. She grew up in our neighborhood and was always so involved in all the neighbors pets lives. Even before we hired her as a pet sitter, she would come over to play, exercise, and just love on the dogs. She’s seen, cared for, and bonded with every animal we’ve had since she was a kid. All of our fur babies have adored here, one of our dogs would even cry if he could hear her on a phone call, but couldn’t see her. As a pet sitter and as a person, she’s a sweetheart. From teaching our Golden to swim, hiking with our Husky who had a thyroid problem to help manager her weight, to even buying a small agility course to burn off energy from our Sheltie. We called her our “terrorist terrier whisperer,” when she started caring for the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (who passed earlier this year). That dog was good aggressive, territorial, anxious, and would often snap at me and my husband if we’d get too close to her bed. She’d even nip hands if you touched it. That dog would never act like that with Anna. When most people came over, Bell was quiet and indifferent, but she’d cry and pee out of excitement whenever Anna came by. I’ve never felt more comfortable having someone in my house, or felt as safe and confident with my pet’s care, than I have with Anna. Even when our Husky passed away unexpectedly at home just last month, my instinct was to call our pet sitter to let her know what happened. She drove almost an hour to our house, at 9am, to help us move her body and get her to a vet for cremation services. We’ve had a few wonderful sitters in our days as pet owners, but Anna really does make you feel like she views your pet as her own.

As of the moment, doggie daycare and boarding services in my own home are not available. I am looking for a home with a fenced in yard to purchase before offering these care options. I am available for partial, full, and overnight care in your home. Generally, I do prefer this method when possible as it’s more comfortable and less stressful on the pet(s). I prefer keeping the animals on whatever their regular schedule entails, but if the weather permits and you’re okay with it, I would love to add additional enrichment. Fun training sessions, walks, car rides, bathing and grooming (if this is something the animal enjoys). Naturally, I’ll require a written or texted list of any medications (name, mg, and frequency), food sensitivities, and anything that the animal doesn’t like (aggressions, fear triggers, things like that).

Information Annamarie P. would like to know about your pet

List of medications (name, dose, frequency, administration method); allergies or sensitivities; existing health issues; NEED to know behaviors (resource guarding, head shy, dog aggressive, etc.); and anything else that would benefit me in ensuring your pet gets the best care.

A typical day

I love to make the pet comfortable and do whatever they already seem to enjoy. If you have a pet that enjoys agility, I’d be happy to run through a course with them. If they enjoy walks, I know of various trail systems to take them to, to enjoy. I like to cater specifically to the pets needs, not just what I think is going to be good for them, as all animals are different and have various personalities, likes, and dislikes. My own dog, before she passed, loved walks- but not if they were in the neighborhood, she specifically had to walk trails.
