I did not grow up with a dog, but had cousins and close friends who did. I often ended up helping them take care of their dog. My cousins received a Bichon back when I was in high school and I wanted the dog experience so I volunteered to help them learn how to take care of her. In college, I spent my summers usually dog-sitting for friends who left to go home. These dogs ranged from small-sized dogs like Malteses and Havaneses to larger sized dogs like black Labs and English Bulldogs. I currently live with my roommate's two dogs (a Yorkie and a rescue) and help take care of them on a daily basis. I also volunteer with Copper's Dream Rescue, all-breed dog rescue serving the San Francisco Bay Area. I really enjoy taking dogs in my care out to the local park (usually Sylvan Park), various dog parks (like Shoreline Park, Seal Point) and even when I am casually walking in downtown Mountain View or Palo Alto. If I am walking the dog and need to eat, I will choose a restaurant that has outdoor seating so my furry friend can hang out with me. I currently work full-time but when I am caring for a dog, I plan to take them out at least for a short walk 3-4 times a day, with longer walks in the morning and night. I'll entertain them with their favorite toys and spend time cuddling them too. I usually do my every day routine with them by my side. If I'm using my computer, I'll have the dog hang out by me too so they don't get lonely. Feeding would depend on what the instructions for taking care of the particular dog are.
