I like to start the day with a new dog by taking them on a long, invigorating walk to give them plenty of exercise and fresh air. Bigger dogs need a bit more activity, and in that case, fetch is my go-to, but I’ll also run around the yard or nearby park if fetch isn’t an option. Throughout the day, dogs need to be engaged in interactive play and activities to provide mental stimulation and physical activity. Tug-of-war is one of my favorites. They also, of course, need plenty of food and water, so I’ll be sure to check up on their supply as the day moves on. In the evenings, especially with new dogs, I like to spend quality time bonding with the dog. Around this time, some dogs need a second walk to get the juices flowing again. I also usually send an update to the owner (that’s you!) at this time to give an overview of what we did today, along with a picture or two. That’s it! There’s a typical day.
