Although I consider myself a dog person, I love cats as well. When ‘owning’ a couple for over ten years, I cared for, trained to a degree, and even devised a number of interactive games to satisfy their cat instincts and bring them pleasure. That said, I have a wealth of experience with dogs. Through the years I have had the great pleasure of caring for and working with a wide range of breeds of dogs and their individual personalities: golden retriever, Tibetan spaniel, cocker spaniel, long-haired Chihuahua, and two pit-bull mixes. (BTY, I Love Pitbull mixes: very affectionate, loyal, playful, goofy and smart. They are readily trainable if you put the time in and are consistent.) All of my dogs have been adoptees from shelters. My in-depth knowledge of dogs comes thanks to experiences such as: doing a brief stint as president of the Socorro, NM Animal Shelter and Adoption Center prior to moving to Florida; volunteered at the West Volusia Humane society following a massive puppy-mill raid; during my college years I worked summers as a mailman -- mine was a walking route so I had plenty of opportunity to learn how to resolve encounters with hair-raised and snarling dogs; finally there is my degree in psychology and years of teaching it at the college level -- that has provided me with the insight and skills to most effectively work with people … and dogs!
