Was supposed to house sit for us for 5 days. During the stay, we did not receive any updates outside for me reaching out to ask about a package we needed him to pickup and me asking about the dogs during this time and on the last day when he stopped in for the last time. We assumed everything was fine.. and we should have paid more attention and not assumed. I looked on our furbo dog camera one time on the day before our trip was over, and realized there were pillows all over the floor and the dogs appeared anxious. My dogs never have separation anxiety or issues, so this prompted me to take a further look. After looking at our dog’s GPS collar, the camera, and the door keypad entry and lock times, I realized that my dogs were only being checked on twice a day… for collectively a hour or less than a hour total per day. One day, per the door keypad log and dog GPS collar, my dogs were left from around 4pm until almost 7am the next day (14.5 hours). We live in an apartment, so this means the dog had to hold their urine for 14.5 hours… We crate my French bulldog overnight, but no longer than 7-8 hours. He was left for over 12 hours in a crate several times. Feeding instructions were not followed… it appeared that he was feeding them AFTER taking them out, which is not our routine, as our dogs have to go to the bathroom AFTER eating. We mentioned this and it was in our written instructions. We had a walker go over 2 hours after he left on the day we were to return at noon from our trip because we were so anxious and worried and had lost trust in him at this point. The walker said the dogs were completely out of water (no water in their automatic waterer which holds water for at least 2-3 days for them), and were extremely thirsty. Im not sure how long they were out of water. When we returned, we almost had to take our elderly dog to the vet, as his stomach was visibly bloated and we didn’t know why. Turns out he just had been holding a ton of feces in from being thrown off of his routine of going out after eating and from infrequent bathroom breaks. He has never had an issue like this before. After taking him out a few times and him having 4 large bowel movements within a few hours, his stomach returned back to normal size. Leaving dogs for 14.5 hours without a bathroom break is never acceptable, and it is especially not acceptable when caring for an elderly dog, as a lot can happen or change in their health and behavior in that period of time, which could result in serious harm or death if not caught soon. Luckily my dogs ended up not having any serious medical events occur, but things could have ended much differently very easily.

Andrew has a deep love and passion for pets of all kinds (dogs and cats, old and young, sick and disabled, etc.), and his big heart translates into the empathetic and selfless way he cares for any pet he encounters (our own cat, his family dogs, the dog and cat he regularly pet-sits for, etc.). He goes out of his way to give the level of support and care that any pet needs, for instance, by traveling across state lines to take care of a family friend's sick, elderly dog for the last month of his life (administering meds, taking to the vet, showering with love and comfort). I trust him wholeheartedly as a responsible, loving, and trustworthy guardian to any pet.
