I have worked with Animals for 8 years. I started when I was 16 volunteering at Seacca Downey Animal Shelter I would assist the medical team with administering vaccines, medication and microchips. I also assisted caregiving team with constant spot check of kennels and inquires potential adopters had of any dog. I then moved onto work for Kennel Cub Lax which was a boarding/grooming/ animal transporting business when I was 18. I worked there for 6 years. I did multiple jobs through the years being there. I as a Kennel Attendant/Receptionsit/Groomer, and Night Attendant my main duties that are relevant consisted of supervising large groups of dogs in social play, exercise, clean, feed, and medicating all animals in our facility for both dogs, cats, and bunny. I then the Kennel Club Lax left to work for the organization Best Friends NKLA . My main responsibilities there were cleaning kennels, monitoring and insuring that all volunteers are using appropriate gear for the dogs on walks and making ensuring they are handing the dogs safely. Medicating and feeding the animals in our facility and monitoring the over all health of all animals. Exercising the dogs physically with daily walks and play times in our yards and exercising them mentally by providing in-kennel enrichment. Testing the dogs in our facility to know whether they are social or reactive to other dogs. Facilitating playgroups appropriately to match dogs in playgroups according to their play styles. Working with dogs to train them to have basic obedience skills. Teaching on boarding class for volunteers to learn procedures and proper handing skills of both dogs and cats in our facility. Assisting in show casing our animals to possible adopters. Counseling adopters through medical and behavior and assisting with any question and concerns. I left NKLA about a month a ago and currently have a part time position at Annenberg Petspace as a Animal caregiver/Adopton specialist.
