Happy Dog Home Pet Care

Pet care experience

Hello Rockland South End Neighbors! I am putting out feelers for needs for dog-walking and drop-in pet care. I live/work in the South End (Rockland) and so am initially making services available ONLY for neighbors within walking distance. A NOTE ON RATES: Rover makes it somewhat challenging to adjust rates (and as you know, they take a chunk/fee out of them); rates reflect that. The dog-walking rate is for 30 minutes from my arriving at your home, until I leave (so the actual walk time may be closer to 20 minutes). If you would like to book a longer walk, please message me. I can also check in on your animals, dog, cat or other at your home, let them out or give them some attention. IF YOU ARE LOCATED further away -- feel free to message me for rates -- the service rates for walks and pet visits reflect the local neighborhood location. For further travel, rates will increase based on mileage. TRAINING: Do you have a new-to-you rescue, young puppy or even an older dog that you would like some help with? I am not a certified trainer. I am self-educated in positive training (no shock collars, no punishment, etc -- only reward-based training) and can help train your dog in basic obedience ( cues like "sit", "down", etc) as well as assist you with basic behavior issues or even some fears/aggression issues. I also can help evaluate and recommendations for behaviorists/trainers for more serious needs. Do you need help with leash training? When I walk your dog, I can work on this with them (and you, if you like!). There doesn't seem to be a place in Rover's system to offer this as an additional service, so please contact me if you are interested. ABOUT ME: I do not have years of experience in professional pet care. My experience is mainly based on my own pet care. I have two dogs myself and I also have cat care experience -- with my own (a cat whom I loved dearly for 18 years) -- caring for him through his senior years -- and experience caring for a close friend's cats that required specified medical care. Currently I am not offering in-home boarding due to a renovation project in our home. However, I feel for pet owners who are in a situation where they are in need of someone to care for their dog because of an unexpected situation — so if you have an emergency need or short-term request, please message me and I may be able to help. More about me: I am a dog lover and pet owner. We had a beloved cat for 18 years that didn't, unfortunately, like dogs (to put it mildly) and so when he passed away, we decided to get a dog. We now have two dogs (and now have one dog who can't be around cats!). I enjoy taking care of all different animals and value good care and positive training. I am also a business owner who works from home. With two dogs of our own, we understand the challenges of finding good, local pet care. With that in mind, I thought perhaps I would see if I can help any local owners with occasional (or regular) check-ins, walks, etc. In the past I've offered in-home boarding but right now that isn't practical with our home environment (renovation work). We do have a fenced in yard and so, weather permitting, if you needed to drop off your dog for a few hours or, depending on the dog, occasional day, that's something I may be able to accommodate. I've volunteered as a dog walker at our local shelter, taken their basic dog behavioral class, taken our own dog to training, and am educated on basic obedience (positive training!). My petsitting experience so far has mainly been focused on caring for our own dog and my friend's cats, one of which required regular, timed injections (so was not a job without serious responsibility). I am very thoughtful and considerate as well as careful. And I am only interested in caring for animals who will be a good fit for the services I can safely provide to ensure their comfort and positive experience. For house-sitting options (NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE): Working from home means I take frequent breaks to give your pet attention -- whether that's through play, grooming or even basic training -- whatever your dog enjoys. And exercise will be tailored to what your dog needs, and you are comfortable with, whether that means frequent walks, a long hike, or playing in our yard. As a dog owner myself, I understand how important it is for you to feel confident in your pet's safety and comfort, while you are away, and I find it rewarding to be able to help other pet owners relax and enjoy their free time through updates and photos. If you are interested in considering in-home visits, walks or our home for daycare, please get in touch so that we can set up an initial meet and greet. Thank you!

I always feel confident when Amy takes care of our cats. She makes sure she knows what their food/litter needs are and then actually follows the guidelines we give. And she spends time with them too while we're gone. She recently also helped me give one of our cats medicine -- it went more smoothly than it does when my husband helps! She interacted with our cat calmly and thought ahead to make sure he would be comfortable and feel safe.

Amy has been a great pet sitter for our special needs fur babies. We are grateful to be able to count on her help and highly recommend her. She is a dedicated pet-lover and care giver.

We have a fenced in yard and one of our dogs loves (!) to play with other dogs. Both of our dogs are on-leash dogs and both know how to slip their collars. For this reason, I am hyper-aware of the importance of keeping an eye on surroundings while on a walk and ensuring that your dog is secure in their collar or harness, and how best to hold their leash. I have a basic understanding of how to take care for dogs with anxiety or reactivity. When coming in and out of your home, I am vigilant about making sure your home and pets are kept safe.

Information Amy F. would like to know about your pet

For first time clients I will request: - Vet information - a copy of your last vet visit receipt (that should list current vaccination list) - any information on food sensitivities or allergies - any information on behavior issues / concerns (BOARDING NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE) Because we have two dogs in our home, it is very important that our dogs meet to ensure they will get along well before any in-home services or joint walks. For boarding or daycare, I also like to know more detailed information about your dog to ensure their comfort—specific issues or needs, sleeping and play habits, etc. I will send you a questionnaire asking about sleeping and play preferences, dietary and health needs, as well as questions about behavior and training needs.

Currently I am mainly offering walks for your dog around the South End neighborhood and/or home visits for cats. I can help out with whatever activity helps keep your pet happy when I come visit—whether that means calm pets while sitting on the couch or more active play.
