The 'Merry Pawpins' of pet care!

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Amy and I cannot wait to meet you and your furry family members! Since 2019, I have been a Family Pet Care Provider in the DC Metro Area. I have lifelong experiences with animals, growing up with dogs, gerbils, hamsters, fish, birds, rabbits, chameleons, and probably others. (No cats as a kid, my brother was allergic.) I also had a few years around horses, taking riding lessons and helping to care for a retired horse. As an adult, the demands of my previous career and jobs plus long commutes, inhibited my ability to have and properly care for dogs. So, I began fostering cats, taking in and caring for friends' cats, and rescued a couple of kittens who chose me to be their forever cat mom. From 2017-2019, I helped to raise, care, train and pet sit for my friend's Boxer from 9 weeks old. I absolutely loved it! (And the Boxer, of course.) By 2019, the company I was working for decided to relocate and move out of the area. I was ready for a career change from working in the fast lane and high pressure environments with tight deadlines and it was the perfect time to make that change. I desired a new quality of daily life. I also wanted to find a new career path that would provide service to and impact my community in a more direct and positive way. With my lifetime background caring for and loving animals, the choice was an easy one. Thus, I started on my new journey of being a full time Family Pet Care Provider. Providing Pet Care has it's own unique challenges that I take on with joy and is immensely rewarding. I just love it! Eventually, I hope to further this venture by studying to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). I also already have basic dog training skills that I can provide upon request. For now, I am fully engaged in being a Family Pet Care Provider for your precious pet family members. As a plus, I do not currently have pets of my own, so I am available and able to give your pet(s) the special time and attention he/she deserves. I am professional, competent, mature, fun-loving and personable. Caring for animals comes naturally to me. I have the knowledge and familiarity of caring for the most friendly to the most shy of pets. I am confident engaging with dogs and cats of most breeds, ages, sizes, and personalities. All animals have unique characteristics, personalities and differing needs. My strong instincts, demeanor, and patience allow me to use my inate ability to connect with a new dog or other pet, on their terms, as they become comfortable with me. Your pet's safety, comfort, and needs along with your trust in me, allows you to have a worry free time away from home, both of which are my main goal and priority. I can also provide excellent references from current clients beyond my reviews on Rover. I look forward to meeting you and your furfamily!

Amy is a pro. She goes the extra mile to deal with the particular challenges of my dogs. She has stayed with my dogs several times now and each time we return, after greeting us with great enthusiasm, it is obvious the dogs are relaxed and were well cared for.

Amy is the best! She just stayed at our house with our two dogs and our daughter’s two dogs. She was totally up to the challenge. When we returned a week later the dogs were calm and the house was immaculate. This was the third or fourth time we’ve hired Amy. We can relax on our vacations knowing that she is in charge.

Amy was great with our American Staffordshire terrier who has fear aggression. We were very comfortable leaving her for the weekend. Bailey was relaxed and happy on our return. We will certainly be one of Amy's repeat clients.

Amy is exactly what I was hoping for. She was gentle and soft spoken with my dog Penny. She respected the cues Penny showed and didn’t push it. As a result Penny was really good and I think we have a dog walker!

I care for your pets in your home (I do not board animals at my residence). While I pet-sit at your home, I will take care of it too! From collecting mail, packages, putting out trash and recycling on their assigned collection days to watering your plants, garden and doing other minor tasks your home and property made need while you are away. When you arrive back home from your travels, you'll find it in the condition you left it or better.

Information Amy C. would like to know about your pet

Before scheduling a "meet and greet", I would like know: Your pet's breed. Their physicality - age, gender, size, weight. How much training (if any) - such as obedience, (sit, stay, come, off, down, stop, etc.); leash and pull training; crate training, etc. And some general information about the personality, temperament, and unique characteristics of your pet(s). During a "meet and greet", once we've established that I am a good fit for you and your pet(s) and vice versa, we can go over more specifics such as use of special harnesses for walks; medication and/or special heath needs; feeding and meal times and preparation details; litter box; treats; etc. Basic information of your pet's routines: sleep, meals, and excercise. i.e. how many walks/day or outside time/day, at what time of day and for how long; does your dog(s) go out to the backyard only, sometimes, never; ability to be on their own in your home and if so, for how long; attention demands; and, of course, their favorite things to do or play, toys, places to walk, visit, nap, hang out, etc. Do your pet(s) love snuggles or do they prefer attention of another kind. Please note that I will need up to a window of 4 hours for which your furry family member(s) can be at home on their own, if/when I need to attend appointments, run errands, etc. **IMPORTANT NOTE: Behavioral and/or temperament exceptions** I must be informed of any behavioral issues such as a tendency towards aggression, previous dangerous or damaging incidents, and/or injuries that have occurred towards humans or other animals. Please inform me if your pet has protective, fear based, or reactive agresssion; behavioral issues such as major and consistent house training issues (puppies or illness not included); regular destruction of property and personal property or destructive behavior; high anxiety resulting in negative behavioral issues; etc. I have personally experienced caring for animals whose human parents have not been upfront with me about such issues with their pets (both cats and dogs), which resulted in injuries. I will not accept a client whose pets have aggressive tendencies towards or has committed injury on other animals or humans. I expect that you will be straightforward with me regarding the temperament of your furry family members and any history of problematic actions and behavior that your pet(s) has initiated. (This does not pertain to my current and recurring clients whose animals I already know. Please update me if there have been changes since I last cared for them.) Thank you for your consideration of these important matters before requesting my services.

A typical day

Your furbabies will get what ever kind of play time, excercise, activities, medication, feedings, special care and attention they want and need, according to your guidelines. Dog walks on their favorite route or path (I am not an athlete, so I do not "run" with dogs); excercise and positive engagement while playing with them; throwing the ball or a frisbee with your dog(s) in your backyard or other established outdoor area; some basic training upon request; minor grooming and brushing; lots of petting, ear rubs, tummy rubs, love and attention. Pretty much what ever your pet(s) needs and wants (within reason) I can and will provide.

Being a Family Pet Care Provider is what I do. It is my job. I do not have another 'day job' and I manage my own schedule. Not having my own pets, allows me to focus on your pet(s) to be available and able to give your pet(s) the time, attention, excercise, and affection he/she needs and deserves. NOTE: I may have daytime appointments and may need to run errands, etc. while pet-sitting, so your pet(s) must be able to be left alone up to 4 hours, if needed.
