Qualified and passionate long-time animal lover

Pet care experience

I have owned and cared for my own (and others') pets consistently since I was a child, and they have always been my passion. I have owned rabbits, hamsters, tropical fish and countless pairs of gerbils, but have also helped care for my Grandma's tortoise and many friends' dogs, puppies and kittens. I care for peoples' pets as if they were my own and I will always do right by them! My house sitting rates listed are based upon sits of 8 - 12 hours. I can reduce the rate for any shorter sits - please send me a message to discuss! I took a Level 2 Animal Care course at GSCE, and passed with a Distinction qualification (the second-highest possible score; equivalent to an A). I greatly enjoyed this course which allowed me to care for a wide range of animals (leopard geckos, bearded dragons, guinea pigs, hairless and normal rats, madagascan hissing cockroaches) which they had on-site (we also took turns to care for them all in our own homes), and learn about caring for an even wider range than this. I chose to do my work experience at Appledown Kennels. I love all animals (besides spiders-those are my number 1 greatest fear haha!), and am passionate about their welfare above all else. I regularly sign petitions which fight against injustice towards animals and towards improving the laws which are supposed to protect them, and I always speak out whenever I see any potential cruelty.

Amy has been looking after our Rocco for a few weeks now and she has been amazing! She has taken the time to create a bond with him, keeps us updated with photos and videos throughout. I would highly recommend Amy to anyone looking for a dog sitter she is very trustworthy and you can tell she has a real passion for caring for animals.

Amy is responsible and incredibly patient. Coco’s fond of her from the first meeting and even before she left for the evening! She kept me updated all the time. Very trustworthy, follows instructions very easily and would use her service again :)

Amy is a really caring, kind person, she is honest and a good communicator and I'm certain she will take good care in your pets.

Amy has always had a dream of working with animals, she loves nothing more than caring for animals. She previously has done work experience at a local animal centre and she loved it and has tried getting work with animals ever since. She has always been very responsible and will do anything to make sure animals are loved and cared for. She would be over the moon if she was given any opportunity to be with animals!

At the moment I am only able to care for pets in the pet owners' homes. I will always ask prior to accepting a job how old your pet is and whether they have any specific or medical requirements I will need to adhere to (i.e. unique fears or anxieties, how well they get on with other people/animals, any medications I will need to administer, short walks only due to age). I can cater to all of these needs of course, but it's very important for me to know this upfront so I can plan my time with your pet affectively. I need to know about their meal times and quantities as well as any dietary requirements so that I can ensure I stick to their routine and feed them what they are used to, to keep them feeling as comfortable as possible with me. The size of your dog and how well they behave on the lead is important to me, as I do have back issues so I unfortunately cannot walk medium/large dogs if they pull on the lead a lot. Well-trained dogs of any size are welcome though, of course! I ask about petting preferences, a.k.a. if there is anywhere your pet does not like to be touched, and whether or not they enjoy being petted at all. I also always ask if there are any areas of your home which are off-limits to myself and/or the pet, so I can ensure that I don't invade anybody's privacy or personal space and that your pet stays safe. One last important question I always ask (especially with young pets!), is where you keep your cleaning products in your home, and which ones you'd prefer for me to use if your pet accidentally makes any messes. Poop bags are also important as I NEVER take a dog for walkies without a pocket full of them! I always keep peoples' dogs ON lead during walkies, unless we have built a good bond and I know they will respond to my commands. I NEVER invite guests into another person's home or allow anybody access who has not already been approved by the owner. I am a non-smoker. I bring my own food and beverages if I am going to be staying for more than a few hours and I will never leave any rubbish or food waste laying around; I hate having a messy kitchen!

Information Amy C. would like to know about your pet

Any special needs, unique fears/anxieties or medical needs I need to know about. I can administer medications and cater to a variety of other needs, but I need this info in advance so I can ensure I'm able to provide the best service I can to your fur baby! What their general temperament is, i.e. calm or anxious, affectionate or prefers space, energetic or lethargic. Age. Usual meal times and any dietary requirements. I need to make sure I'm feeding them the right food in the right quantities! I'd hate for them to feel uncomfortable. Size of your dog and how they behave on the lead and react to other animals/vehicles/people when out and about. Large dogs who pull a lot will be too much for me, I'm afraid! Well-trained dogs of all sizes are welcome though, of course. Petting preferences - anywhere your pet doesn't like to be touched, or if they like being petted full-stop. Their favourite toys/objects/activities!

A typical day

This can vary greatly based on what your pet enjoys most! But generally I will first take some time to introduce myself to your pet; approach slowly, perhaps give them a treat to help them know I am a friend. If they enjoy pets, I'll give lots of those! I will always ask you what their favourite toys are (if any), and will turn to those to initiate play (fetch, tug of war etc.) at regular points throughout the day. I would walk them at least once a day also, if that's something you'd like me to do. Otherwise I would just chill with them, maybe cuddle up and watch tv together or play hide and seek! I'm also a qualified photographer, so you can expect regular adorable photo updates and maybe even a full-on shoot with my DSLR if we have the time!
