Total Animal Lover

Pet care experience

I am a caring, honest and genuine sitter who treats dogs as if they were family. I have always loved all animals, but there's something extra to be said about the connection between people and dogs. The therapeutic value they have cannot be replaced by anything else. They have such pure and loving little hearts and souls that allow a bond unlike that of human to human. I grew up with dogs, and have volunteered at the Oregon Human Society. I’m comfortable working with all types of dogs and providing specialized care, whether exercising multiple dogs, managing separate feedings for territorial pups, or caring for dogs who prefer to be solitary. I am currently working with a wide array of reptiles and amphibians. I work in education and introducing these animals to children. These range from tiny tree frogs to 15-foot snakes! My favorite animals at work are the smaller snakes, because they are relaxed and easy to handle. We also have cockroaches and tarantulas at work which I am less fond of handling, but I can still suck it up. I'm currently a hamster mom. In my lifetime I've owned parakeets, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, frogs and cats. I hope to never be petless, and am happy to take care of any type of animal you have.

Amelia was Amazing!! She took care of our 5 dogs and 2 turtles, in addition to keeping the house clean, and dealing with our heat wave. She is the sweetest, most organized and dependent sitter we have ever used, she is now our preferred sitter, and we highly recommend her!!

Amelia was completely on point- took amazing care of our dogfriend, and was responsive and responsible. Chelita loved her. We got several updates and photos during her stay, which we really appreciated! Would absolutely book her again!

Amelia was amazing! When we got home after 10 days our dog didn't even seem excited to see us she had such a good time with Amelia while we were gone. She sent us updates with pictures and even had freshly made cookies waiting for us when we got home! Her professionalism mixed with personal approach allowed us to enjoy our trip and not worry about leaving Crosby at home. On a scale of 1-10 we would rate her an 11!

Amelia is wonderful! Batman had a lovely time and our house looked great when we returned. We loved her communication and will look forward to working with her again.

Information Amelia G. would like to know about your pet

I make sure to get the most complete itinerary possible from the owner, so I know exactly what is expected of me by the human client and exactly how to accomplish that with the canine client. This would mean learning specific commands the client and dog are used to, certain behaviors the dog exhibits, and the dog's likes and dislikes. I'll make sure to send photos and show up on time. I watch carefully to observe the dog and see what they are trying to tell me. I would initially like to know if there are any things the dog is uncomfortable with. I always start my introduction by crouching down and offering my hand to be sniffed before going in for a pet. I will have treats on me during the meet and greet, though I will check with the owner before offering. I do not have preferences on breeds — I am comfortable around all.

A typical day

We’ll go on walks and spend time leisurely enjoying sights and smells. If your pup likes dog parks, we’ll head to socialize and find a nice open space to play catch. We’ll also spend time cuddling and reading on the couch. If your pup enjoys tricks and treats, we’ll do that too! Since I have a flexible schedule, I can usually accommodate busy canine calendars. Over the summer I’ll be working half days, so I can let your pup out in the morning and then again in the afternoon when I return. On the weekends I’m free to spend all my time with pups. I love the dog park in Alameda, the walking trail along the water in Richmond near Costco, and Mountain View Cemetery in Piedmont. These are all very spread out, dog-friendly places and I am happy to go anywhere in between. I moved here from Portland, so rain or shine I will happily take the dog out. My favorite way to spend my free time is by exploring. This could be an urban walk or a forested hike — which could only be improved by having a four-legged companion. If it's a smaller or older dog who tires easily, I’m happy to pick lengths appropriate for their needs, or bring a doggy carrier.
