Providing cuddles — Not cages.

Pet care experience

Hi there! My name is Amber, and I’ve been an animal lover for my entire life. I started pet-sitting dogs in my neighborhood when I was 9-years-old, eventually working my way up to caring for puppies and senior dogs for extended periods of time by the time I was 11 and my neighbors near my childhood home would vacation on summer holiday. Upon proving my responsibility, my parents let me welcome a beautiful Yorkie puppy into our family! His name is Dooley, and he turned 14 years old in May 2022. It’s been incredibly rewarding for me to watch the dogs I’ve walked, bathed, trained, and loved over the years grow-up into the phenomenal Good Boys (and Gals) they are today! Living, working, and renting in Manhattan breaks my heart a little everyday, because I’m dying for the opportunity to start my own little pet family. Until I’m financially independent enough to care for my own, I hope you’ll let me make friends with your best friend for just a little while, at your needed convenience :) I currently work as a compliance officer in Investment Banking, so I have a great track record of keeping an incredibly organized and detailed schedule! I’m fully transparent with when and where I’m available, and I’ll only accept bookings when I can provide the fullest and best of care of your best friend. I live about from the Time Warner Center, so I’m always more than happy to take our furry friends off the sidewalks of Manhattan for a minute and let them experience Central Park! For those unfamiliar with the Park, there are plenty of grassy lawns for dogs have room to run, play, and socialize with each other. If you’re unfamiliar with the park, off-leash hours are only prior to 9AM, so definitely try and book an early appointment if you’re looking for your dog to have a little off-leash-freedom. Lastly, if you’re worried about your dog visiting the park due to himself/herself getting into trouble, I promise — they’ll will be with someone who works and lives in the area. I know exactly which areas of the park are totally fenced in, which areas of park are quieter, etc. They’ll be completely safe :) If your dog is a little nervous around crowds and fellow furry friends, no sweat! A walk is supposed to be enjoyable for the both of us! There are plenty of quieter spaces on the UWS along the Avenues where your dog can get plenty of exercise, fresh air, and good vibes. Regarding in-home day visits, please note that I respect your space and privacy just as much as mine. As such, if your dog is allowed on furniture and/or not allowed in any areas of the residence, please let me know in advance so I can ensure that the area remains untouched. If you live in a condominium or apartment unit and are concerned with correct disposal of pee-pads and/or any other waste, I’ve got your back! Building restrictions can be tough to maneuver. However, living in a highly regulated Manhattan condominium building myself, I’m familiar with correct disposal methods. Lastly, should anything go awry on a walk, my condominium building allows permits dogs up to 30 pounds in the building. I have food and water bowls in my spacious residence should we need to take a break.

I couldn’t be happier that Amber was the first sitter to respond when I needed someone walk Molly in a time crunch. I was pleasantly surprised to come home to a clean home with no mud or grass stains from the park, and I was greeted by a relaxed, calm, tired, and happy pup. It was truly a pleasure to meet a young person in the neighborhood who isn’t on Rover just for cash as dog services are expensive enough in the city. Both my husband and I can attest to her polished, well-rounded, educated character and professionalism. Molly & I both made a friend this weekend. Thanks again, Amber, and we’ll see you soon! — Alexis & Ethan

Amber & I actually met in NYC on my way to get my morning BEC. Crouton (my handsome 6-month-old Basset Hound) gets a little anxious sometimes waiting in lines when there’s a lot of foot-traffic…needless to say, my hands were full. Amber actually stopped to help me out (clearly struggling with my AM BEC, coffee, and anxious dog), so she held Crouton’s leash while I got all my stuff in order. Crouton is rescue and a naturally anxious dog, so it was a miracle to see him immediately comfortable by Amber’s side! Amber is literally the only person that Crouton is comfortable and happy to see (he’s even grumpy around my long-term boyfriend), and it’s always a pleasure to have her come over and hang out. She has even been kind enough to watch Crouton for me so I can go grocery shopping / pick up my mail / etc. and also have peace of mind that things aren’t crazy at home. I’m actually the one who recommended that she join Rover because she’s definitely equipped to handle any type of dog in any situation.

Amber is a colleague who brings an unmatched passion into any task she takes on without fail. I recently adopted two puppies into my family as a first time dog owner. She has been great support! She is very knowledgeable about caring for dogs and consistently provides empathy-based yet clear direction regarding the best way to ensure a happy and healthy upbringing for Apple & Leif (my two most recent family additions).

Safety, trust & environment

Trusting a new person to enter your home (let alone to walk and/or care for your pet) is scary! I totally get that. Regarding your pet’s safety, it’s most important that you please communicate your dog’s/cat’s limitations. If your pet is shy, gets a little spooked around other animals, or is in their “wiser” years, I’m more than happy to find the best-fit activities to ensure your pet is a safe and happy environment during our time together. Regarding safety for drop-ins, I have a very strict “common-spaces-only” policy unless explicitly directed otherwise. If your dog/cat isn’t allowed on furniture, please let me know and I will do my best to ensure they comply with house rules. In addition, if there areas of the home that are restricted to your pet and he/she tends to be on the adventurous side, please be sure to provide leave doggy gates and/or other barriers to restrict them from those spaces (trust me, I wouldn’t want someone going through my personal space either!) Lastly, I always carry hypoallergenic doggy wipes with me to make sure your furry friend doesn’t bring home muddy paw prints. If there’s a specific brand of wipes that you like for your dog or have on hand, just be sure to leave me a few so I can make sure your pet can roam around freely (without making a mess!) in his/her space once we’re back from our walk.

Information Amber P. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or behaviors that may affect our time together. I have experience in caring for dogs of all ages, breeds, shapes, and sizes; however, to ensure our time together is as happy and safe possible, I ask that you please let me know if your dog is still in his/her teething phase and/or is afraid of certain objects/other people/other dogs. Additionally, if your dog has any seasonal allergies, please let me know so I can tailor our visit accordingly. For in-house visits, please let me know if there is any furniture or additional areas that are restricted to your dog. Please also let me know of any dietary restrictions and/or food regime that your dog may be currently subject to for health purposes. Lastly, if your dog has a favorite park, favorite toy, favorite treat, etc. please don’t hesitate to let me know! I want to ensure your pup is as happy as I am when we get to spend time together, so please feel free to let me know if there’s anything I can do to make your pup’s day a little brighter!

A typical day

If you haven’t been able to tell by my living arrangements near Central Park and my office adjacent to Battery Park, one of the reasons I love Manhattan is our city’s greenery! Living and working in a metropolis can feel cramped and polluted at times, so I love to make sure that the dogs I care for have the opportunity to play in open landscape whenever possible. Nature (albeit safe outdoors nature) is great for our furry friends, so getting out and about to the park is a real treat for both your dog and myself too!

I try to fit in time to care for your pets as much as possible during the week/weekends; however, in order to provide the best care possible, please keep in mind that I will not overbook if it clashes with another client or my work schedule. My weekends are my “me” time, and the thing that makes me happiest in the world are caring for pets! I’m an early riser, so feel free to put time on my calendar on any given Saturday or Sunday. My weekday schedule is a little more tricky. I work downtown in Battery Park City. If you’re located in that area, I’m available for both drop-ins and walks from 12:00PM-1:30PM Monday through Thursday. I’m available during the same time on Friday’s, though my schedule is definitely more flexible! If you have a Friday request and you’re in the Battery Park City/Tribeca area, shoot me a message and let’s see if we can make something work.
