Your pup won't want to leave!!

Pet care experience

As someone who has gone through the worst possible situation with a negligent pet sitter (my dog ended up in the ICU for 13 days) I have since felt obligated to help those in need of someone to take care of their fur babies, especially if it is last minute. Not only did I used to work as a vet tech, but I also pride myself to being extremely "in-tune" with dogs' mood changes--so I can promise your dog will be treated as if they are my own. At our house, our dogs get 1-2 walks a day, and enjoy LOTS of play time in our fenced back yard. My husband and I both work from home in the winter (we are in the roofing industry) so dogs are rarely left alone, and when they are--It's usually for an hour or two at most. I am more than happy to respect any training styles or boundaries that you have set for your dog (no begging, jumping, couch, etc) while they stay with us. We have an abundance of dog beds throughout our 3 bedroom home, and ample space to put a crate if your pup is crate trained. If food aggression is a concern, dogs will be fed separately. Any dietary concerns or specifications will be strictly followed.

Amber and her husband are awesome! They obviously love doggies and enjoy having them around. Nice safe fenced in yard. Our dog was very happy to join their two and some others for an evening of dinner, yard play, and relaxing on the couch 🩷 We will definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone 🧡

Thank you SO much Amber. We appreciate all the time you took to make our Gravy extra comfortable. We appreciated all the updates and pics, and we loved meeting your dogs as well! He's an anxious boy but as far as we could tell he loved you and your pups and home.

This was our first multi-day trip where we had to board our recently adopted rescue dog. I was very nervous. Amber and her husband put my mind at ease immediately. She has an obvious love of dogs and broad knowledge. She was able to tell me different situations she had encountered previously and how she handled them. Example: dog afraid of riding in the car. Lots of updates and pictures. Our dog Ellie was well-loved and taken care of while we were gone. We will use them again.

I understand that being away from one's family can be extremely stressful for most dogs--my own dogs will go on a hunger strike for a day or so, when left at my in-laws. So, my approach is to give lots of love (snuggles, pets, "butt scritches," etc) as well as distraction techniques [aka--lots of backyard, or living room play time, frozen marrow bones, bully sticks, etc] If permitted, your pup is welcome to join on the multiple trips to the dogpark that we take weekly.

Any special needs or quirks (i.e. ZERO deviation from a special diet, allergies, resource guarding/food aggression **need to feed separately**, medications/health concerns, special requests--tooth brushing, combing, treats they can safely have. In case of an emergency, do you have a particular vet that you'd like me to bring your dog. Is your pup crate trained? Do you have any concerns about me bringing your pup to Battle Creek Dog Park? Is it okay for me to give your dog a bath, if they are dirty? (This time of year, our backyard can get super muddy) ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR A MEET-N-GREET BEFOREHAND. It definitely helps dogs settle in and be comfortable during the first 24 hours of their stay with us.

A typical day

I wake up around 6:30, and feed the dogs. Then we go outside, and I usually pick up poop while it is still chilly out. My own dogs aren't usually awake at this time and are happy to curl back up on the couch--but when we have canine guests, they're also down to go outside and play. We have a giant basket of dog toys on our deck and I usually try to instigate some backyard zoomies. In the late morning, if we are sitting a manageable amount of dogs (lol)...my husband and I will take them for a walk to Pullman elementary and let them run around the ice rink there. It's only about a 7 minute walk from our front door. Around 5pm I feed our dogs--but am used to accommodating different feeding schedules. Then we try to go outside for our 1st evening poop-n-romp. Often, our neighbors dog (Vinnie/black lab mix) will come through the gate between our two yards to play with us. Then we go back out around 7:45 for our final play session.

Until April, my schedule is WIDE OPEN. I work from home, doing mostly office work, during the winter--as the roofing industry is quite quiet this time of year. So I most of my days involve at least 1 dog walk; I usually make it to the dog park 2x a week. And with this warm "winter" we are having, our sliding glass door is open to the back yard many hours of the day!
