Amber watched our dog for the second time recently, for a shorter stay of a few days. And once again, she was an exceptional caregiver. I just cannot say enough good things about her. She is so accommodating, kind, incredibly involved with the dogs, and sends constant updates and pictures. Nova gets better care with her than at our house, guaranteed. Amber is one of a kind and we don’t ever plan to use anyone else if we can help it. 1000 gold stars.

We can't thank you enough for not only the stellar care for Phoebe but also for helping us out when we had our last minute travel problems. We rest easy knowing that you are so responsible and take such tremendous care of our little dachshund. Thanks again for all your help!!

Winston is a 55lb bernedoodle who has been coming to visit Amber and her dog, Dante, 2+ times a month for daycare, as well as regular overnight stays for over a year now. He is on the anxious side and Amber is able to calm him and make him feel at home away from home. She is reliable, flexible, responsive, and sends multiple updates and pictures throughout his stays with her. He is well exercised and tired when I pick him up after a long day. Thank you, Amber!

Did not work out for us. Writing this so no one else goes through what we did. I contacted Amber looking for a sitter for our dog while we were in Mexico for our destination wedding. He does not do well being caged in a kennel environment so I was looking for a new option for this period of 9 days. Amber had great reviews and I was very optimistic that this home environment would be a better option for my baby. He is a lover and just likes to be where the people are. We did a daycare day initially followed by an overnight closer to to ensure compatibility. Once in Mexico it appears that my dog was not on his best behavior. The longer we were gone the worse she said he was. She first messaged me asking how we dealt with behaviors such as digging, he does not dig in our yard so I did not have an answer. It culminated with multiple messages ON MY WEDDING DAY saying how bad he was being. Let me pause here to say thank f*ck I did not have my phone on me all day because this would have ruined my wedding day. Instead it just ruined my wedding night, sitting there helpless and sick to my stomach, thousands of miles away. Her issues: -He ate 6 raw chicken breasts off the counter. I can only speculate here as he doesn’t do this at home but what am I supposed to do about this after the fact, on my wedding day, in Mexico? -Her sister and 18 month old nephew were visiting. My dog stole food from the baby and kept pushing him down and licking him. She tried to separate them with a baby gate which my dog apparently broke. I have several issues here. 1. We do not have kids yet and so my dog is not very familiar with them. He can be overly energetic and likes to bark at them which seems scary. I have this detailed in my dog’s profile and specifically chose Amber because she does not have any kids. 2. I was uncomfortable to hear that she had arranged to have the baby visit while watching my dog since I had the boarding booked months in advance, but by the time I found out we were in Mexico and it was too late. I feel that any issues they had were 100% her fault for having the baby over when the dog’s profile is clear about children. 3. Stealing food from the baby? Yeah that seems obvious. We ended up having our neighbors (pure saints) pick him up 2 days early because it was too stressful for her. Our neighbors had no concerns with his behavior while he was with them. I do not doubt that he was misbehaving however I feel that she, with all of her experience and courses, should have been able to handle it. Instead it was like each issue was a huge deal, making me wonder if she is best suited for small dogs who can’t reach the counter or knock over babies? Mine is 60lb medium size. If you have a medium size and up dog that might not be on its best behavior learn from us and choose another sitter.

Information Amber H. would like to know about your pet

Please tell me if your dog is friendly toward small-breed dogs (my resident dog is an Italian Greyhound, he is about 14 lbs and is well socialized with big & small dogs). Is your dog fully house trained? Does he/she prefer to sleep in a crate, in a dog bed or in the human's bed? How does your dog do in the car? Does he/she need to be in a crate during car rides? Does your dog look have any special conditions that I should be aware of? What is your dogs preferred activity level?

A typical day

My neighbourhood (River Song in Cochrane) is surrounded by lots of great walking trails, easy access to the 3 local dog parks (if you prefer), which allows us to get out frequently and for as long as we need. Dogs can enjoy thr comfort of my home and large fencedb yard for frequent breaks. If your dog is comfortable on car rides, Alberta is our playground! I love going on adventures with dogs and exploring new trails & hikes in Cochrane, Calgary, Bragg Creek and Canmore! I always keep the dogs on-leash, carry lots of water and bear-spray to keep us safe on our adventures. Hiking with Hounds not available in the winter months. Some of my local more frequently visited trails include: Mitford Ponds, Cochrane Ranch, Glenbow Ranch, Bulrush Park, and the trails alongside the Bow River. Depending on your dogs activity level & preference, we can do lots of exploring & walking or keep it more low-key and around the local neighbourhood. Weekend hikes are almost always included (weather dependant) and again based on your dogs activity level. N/a in winter. If your dog frequents the dog parks and is used to being off-leash and playing at the fenced-in dog park here in Cochrane, I am happy to take him/her there. Dante and I frequent the local dog parks as he loves to run & socialize, but if this is not something you are comfortable with, we will avoid during your dog's stay. I have plenty of toys here at home, but feel free to bring your dogs favorite toy or ball to make them feel more comfortable and relaxed during your absence.
