Dog Trainer, photographer, vet tech
Pet care experience
I grew up from the age of five attending dog training classes where my mother was an assistant. When I was 14 I apprenticed under the trainer myself until I was 18. I learned how to train the most problematic dogs, even the most severe aggression cases, and turn them into happy and well- rounded dogs. Since I turned 18 I have been training independently. I have also personally graduated the official obedience training course. I started doing special, structured types of walks for my past obedience clients that needed them, during which we focus on mental stimulation along with the physical stimulation of walking. Photography has added even more opportunity for fun engagement while out and about! I worked at Chicago Veterinary Emergency Services for two years when it was the only emergency vet in Chicago, and was a tech at a routine care vet office for over a year when I lived in San Diego. I am comfortable administering most medications and medical treatments. I also worked for a cat shelter for eight years so I am extremely familiar and comfortable caring for cats. If you have other species of animal you are concerned about, I have had most types of furry animal at some point in my life, in addition to the goats on my aunt's farm and the horses I rode competitively for six years. I speak ASL (American Sign Language), while not fluently anymore, I get by fairly well for those of you who need someone who signs moderately well.
Reviews
Very professional and would definitely use again. Very kind and punctual.
My sweet doggie Annie has benefited greatly since Amber started walking her. Annie is a big Shepard and needed some TLC. Annie was a little withdrawn ( she joined our family at 3years old after a pretty harse life). Number 1- Amber is great with Shepards. Amber works with Annie while walking and we see our doggie really enjoying herself. Not that she didn’t before but there is a definite upward trend. She is chasing balls, has squeaky toys everywhere and looks happy! Especially in the pictures that Amber sends us. They are great!
Amber is super patient and supportive of our extremely high-energy dog!
Amber has been doing a great job with Annie Honey. She is punctual, knowledgeable, focused and on top of things. And she has been able to come on short notice. Very accommodating. Most importantly, our doggie is benefiting by being with Amber. Annie is a German Shep, big strong but requires a lot of TLC. Amber is doing a good job with her!

Information Amber A. would like to know about your pet
Past history of aggression or other problem behaviors does not disqualify you from getting structured walks, but most be upfront about past issues.
A typical day
We maximize the walk by structuring it and using engagement to get great pictures in the neighborhood. Of course they always get time to sniff and go at "dog pace," but we also spend a lot of time MOVING and WORKING! Depending on the dog and the dog's age, health and activity requirements, we walk and run and cover some ground in between sniff breaks and pictures! For dogs that lack confidence I can structure walks so we work on making things that are "scary," not so scary anymore through structured and controlled exposure. For dogs that are so wound up they are acting out, we can put that energy to work while I am out with them so you come home to a calmer dog!
