Mom to the rescue!

Pet care experience

Hello to all! I am a former veterinary assistant turned pet sitter....and my most important job is being a mom to a rambunctious three year old boy:) I have been an animal lover my entire life, and I cannot imagine doing anything other than work with animals for a living. I am back in school after many years for a B.S. in interior design and I have a long term goal of helping redesign animal shelters pro-bono and and keeping my foot in the door of the rescue field. In the meantime, I have thoroughly enjoyed my pet sitting business as a way to make the most of my time with my son while also having the fulfillment of spending time with animals on a daily basis. Connecting with animals is not just my job, it is my way of life. Alongside my innate love for animals, you can rest assured knowing your pet is safe in the hands of someone who has five years experience at two highly rated animal hospitals, as well as several years of professional pet sitting experience. I also have experience with exotics, and am open to pet care for all walks of life. I am happy to safely administer medication (including insulin) as needed. I have references available upon request and would love to hear more about you and your pets! Thank you! Experience: Four years experience as a veterinary assistant in southern Maryland, and the other year spent in Black Mountain, NC, both highly rated and busy animal hospitals. I have 10+ years pet sitting experience. Why I love dog sitting: All of my life I've loved all animals large and small since I can remember. I've always had pets in the house and was always the child bringing home strays. Professionally, I started getting experience with dogs around 6 years ago when I became a veterinary assistant. ***Ask me about a $20 off coupon code for first time Rover users!

Amara was amazing! She took in my 6 month Lewellyn setter puppy for the day while I was at clinicals. He is fairly high energy (given his breed) and can be quite a handful, but Amara handled it like a champ. She even had a peanut butter filled Kong for him! She sent me updates throughout the day so I wouldn't worry. She's also a vet tech which helped me feel much better about leaving him with her. I'll definitely be using her again!

Amara is great! She is so friendly and loved our animals but most importantly they loved her! So happy to be able to go out of town and feel comfortable that we are leaving our fur babies in capable and loving care. Will definitely be calling on Amara again.

Information Amara M. would like to know about your pet

I do not have any breed preferences, I love them all, especially the mutts! The only thing that I ask to be made aware of is whether the dog or not your pet is friendly with everyone. I'm okay working with the iffy ones outside my home, but when hosting in my own home, they must get along with everyone! I have a toddler(who is NEVER left unsupervised with a dog that is not our own), a blind cat, and a friendly chihuahua. The only other things I ask are that they must be housebroken, non destructive, and not an incessant barker (occasional barking is okay).

A typical day

I treat all animals like my own, and get a bit sad everytime I see them off. When pet sitting outside my home, I typically come 3x per day and stay at least an hour to walk, play and shower them with the attention they are lacking with their owners being out of town. I love to go on hikes with the owners' permission. As for those in my own home, I am never gone more than a few hours, so they don't have to wait too long between potty breaks. Pets are welcome to get comfy anywhere, including the couch and bed...(that's what vacuums are for). *** I am also happy to water plants that need attention at no extra charge, because plants need love too:) Just ask!
