Dog carer -happy to sit/care especially Edinburgh

Pet care experience

I’m a mature experienced dog owner, sitter and really like getting to know them. I would prefer to look after one or two dogs at a time, if they are well behaved and used to each other. I’ve owned cocker and springer spaniels and a border collie cross since I was young and regularly walk and look after friends’ labradors and retrievers as well. I’ve lived in many houses and can deal with most situations calmly and sensibly. I enjoy getting to know dogs and doing whatever it takes to make them happy. I’ve looked after old dogs, blind and deaf as well as younger energetic ones - I like them to have some training so I’m not being towed and then we can have fun together getting to know their characters and keeping your pet happy.

Amanda was a wonderful housesitter! She looked after our dog for a few days, giving him plenty of walks and enjoyment. She looked after our house and communicated clearly and in a very timely way. We are looking forward to being able to use Amanda again and highly recommend her for house and pet sits!

My lurcher Charlie currently has a broken leg so I was a little nervous about leaving him for a few days with a sitter. I felt at ease as soon as Amanda arrived for the pre-meet up – kind, friendly, and Charlie took to her straight away. When I was away Amanda kept me updated on how Charlie was getting on, and throughout the whole process was helpful, flexible and always quick to respond to messages. I highly recommend Amanda as a dog sitter and am very pleased to have found someone reliable to look after Charlie when needed – I know he'll be delighted next time she comes to stay!

I prefer to care for dogs in their own home and neighbourhood where they feel most comfortable but can drive them to longer walks if needed (depending on size of dog!). I’m also used to older dogs who need company, short frequent walks/toilet breaks and can manage most medications and vet visits easily, though not injections. I’ll just try to keep your dog safe and happy - and will send you updates/photos as often as you like.

Information Amanda W. would like to know about your pet

Let me know any special information or preferences please, also medication, vets and your daily routine - see checklist below. I’m used to spaniels and Labradors and have also looked after older border collies, greyhounds and retrievers, but am happy with most types of medium to small size dogs - but if you think your breed has special needs pls let me know. I’d rather look after one/two dogs at a time in their own home. I don’t want to sit for dogs with aggression or behavioural issues. Most loved family pets are fine! Please provide me with this information: - Emergency numbers while you’re away - Local neighbour/friend who may help in emergency - walk and food routine including some favourite walks - any medical needs and when I should call the vet - how you settle your pet before you go out and at night - how you answer the door to deliveries (how to keep your pet safe/not escaping) - do you have security cameras/alarms? - other than pet care, is there anything else you’d like me to do for your house/garden while you’re away?

A typical day

Dear dog - I’ll spend some time playing and getting to know you first. Then let’s go out and walk, explore your area. I love walking in woods and on the beach and if you’re up for ball games that would be fun too. We can go further in the car if you like that or stay nearby whatever you prefer. Then let’s get home, get tidied up and maybe have some food? Then time together curled up would be fun. And repeat!

I’m retired so have plenty of time available to prioritise your requirements - I’m especially keen to take bookings in Edinburgh as I’d like to go out to see my grandchildren for an hour after school. I prefer to look after your dog in your home where they will feel happier, but also because I like exploring new areas. I’m mainly interested in 3-5 day or longer sits though I may be available walk/toilet visit/ provide care for shorter periods in the North East Fife/Dundee/Perth/ St Andrews/Cupar area.
