Dogs, Cats, Other Animals Welcome!

Pet care experience

My work and experience with animals is very diverse and extensive—I have experience walking and caring for pets for over a decade. From puppies, to high energy dogs and cats, to animals with food allergies or mobility issues—I’ve experienced and cared for pets with a wide variety of needs. No one dog or cat (or other animal!) is the same and I take individualized care very seriously. Simply put, I love meeting and caring for animals—it’s a joy for me to meet new personalities and care for a member of the family in the same way I treat my own pets. I've worked with over 50 different dog breeds (and mixes of course), many cats, rabbits, and rodents. I've have walked dogs professionally (specifically for a high-volume of clients in Chicago in the winter) and as a favor to neighbors and friends for many years. I also worked at a dog/cat day-care and boarding facility at an animal hospital. This is where I learned a lot about different dog temperaments, how to handle leash or dog aggressive dogs, administer oral medication, basic first aid and much more. I also have extensive knowledge and professional experience in caring for and working with disabled (often elderly) animals. I’m familiar and comfortable with animals dealing with anything from incontinence, loss of mobility, general injuries, amputations, neurological disorders, and birth defects. I gained this experience by working for a custom animal wheelchair company local to Western Massachusetts, where I personally measured, assessed, and later trained dogs weighing close to 200lbs, to rabbits as little as 3lbs in using their mobility wheelchairs. I’m trained in dog/cat CPR and have a solid understanding of what to look at for in terms of abnormal behavior relating to a potential medical issue—whether that be overheating, loss of appetite or drinking, signs of neurological distress, choking, poisoning, etc. I am not afraid to inform pet parents of anything abnormal I notice right away, whether it be a tick, excessive lethargy, difficulty breathing, and other symptoms that may need medical attention. Whether it's a simple walk around the block, or getting a cat to take their pill, or changing a dog's diaper—I've done it all. I'm comfortable around large breeds, low energy to high, to the shy-est or most playful of cats. I'm open to caring for other species of animals as well, (let's talk! :) I care deeply about every person's animal companion because I know what it's like to form that special bond with a cat or dog, especially if they require special care. The care of an animal is just as important to care for a human; I believe that to my core. As a sitter or walker, I'll always bring that love, care, and special attention to every animal I meet and I'll take much pride and joy in doing so. August I’m more available on weekdays but I’m always updating my schedule. September I am available for Labor Day weekend. Message me for any questions, special requests, or if you'd like more information. :) Please reach out with any questions not addressed above, and I’m happy to discuss specific safety concerns, special needs, or special services for your animals.

We hired Amanda for our wedding weekend. Amanda was responsive to our messages and checked in as we requested, but was also very considerate in not sending too many texts during our wedding day. The dogs seemed relaxed and happy when we returned. Our home was also very clean when we got back. Thank you Amanda !

Amanda is a fantastic pet sitter and caregiver. They created a true bond with our disabled dogs and was very comfortable properly taking them in and out of their wheelchairs. She was very patient with our reactive Pomeranian and was able to read she cues quickly. I would absolutely recommend Amanda.

Amanda was a phenomenal resource to us when my family had to schedule a last minute trip very suddenly! We have three high energy dogs who don't walk well together, and Amanda took the time to exercise each of them individually every day to ensure no one got hurt but everyone still got to play. You won't regret hiring her! I recommend her highly.

Amanda cared for my cats multiple times and did a fantastic job every time. She had to deal with giving medications and did a great job, even with cats who weren't happy about taking their meds. She played with them, sent us pictures, and went above and beyond in caring for them. Highly recommended!

Information Amanda M. would like to know about your pet

I always prefer to know as much info as possible, but at the very least I like to try and do a home visit and meet the dog, cat, or other animal and talk to the owner to get a sense of the animal's environment and how they respond to me. In general, for dogs, it's important for me to know their personality on-leash and off, how they are around other people, dogs, cars, etc. What they eat and the amount. How they like to play, what's their favorite toy, etc. The more information though, the better! For cat parents, it's a big plus to get as much info from you about what your cat is like and their eating habits and how they like to play. Do they like to be pet? How do they like to be pet? I love taking care of cats but I know every cat's need can look very different, so the more info I have, the better!

A typical day

For Dog Sitting: I love to hear from the owner(s) how their dog prefers to play and where their dog likes to walk/run around. Personally, I love throwing balls for dogs to chase or catch. Playing a game of tug with a rope toy, you name it. And of course as many pets and belly rubs as they want. For Cat Sitting, it's a big plus to get as much info from you about what your cat is like and their eating habits and how they like to play. Do they like to be pet? How do they like to be pet? I love taking care of cats and I know every cat's need can look very different, so the more info I have, the better! For dog walking: Parks are always a great place for a dog walk but depending on a dog's temperament on-leash, I may walk them in their neighbor hood and avoid high pedestrian areas. It all depends on the dog and the information I get on what works best and makes their dog the happiest.
