I've looked after animals of all sizes, from Scottish terriers and border collies to chocolate labs and Great Danes. I love them all. While working at Outside magazine, I used to take the office dog running on the trails around Santa Fe during my lunch break, just because we both loved it so much. I grew up with dogs (German shepherds, a Tibetan spaniel and a shitzhu-maltese mix) and I appreciate the special place they occupy in their owners' hearts. They can complete a family. I also think there's something to this idea: "I’m suspicious of people who don’t like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn’t like a person."
